I have purchased almost every gt3/2/rs in the gen 1&2 of the 997 and 991 series; and a spyder and gt4 in the 981. I have passed on the 718 gt’s and I haven’t reached out to my dealer for any allocation on the upcoming 992 gt products (in the past, I’d already be jockeying for positioning). I don’t dislike the 718 and I doubt I will dislike the 992. They are/will both be phenomenal cars. But I am an example of someone that would have bought nearly every new GT product Porsche produces that now MIGHT buy one of something they produce in the 718/992 series, but there’s an equal chance I buy nothing. I could write on about the reasons for the change in my buying pattern for Porsche GT product, but the more relevant point is that I am anecdotal evidence that one serial Porsche GT buyer that has stepped off the merry-go-round. That being said, I’m sure it’s gonna be a truly amazingly capable car. And, there could easily be 10 new buyers that have stepped into my shoes. I’m sure there was some guy that stopped after the 996 (and 993 and so on). But, I do know a fair amount of people that, at a minimum, won’t buy EVERYTHING they put out; instead MIGHT buy one of something porsche does this next decade (and maybe nothing).

Interesting discussion and valid points on both sides, but we cannot say for sure it will happen one way or the other. In the end it all is speculation and opinion.
It may be that the 992 is not as popular as the 991 because the next generation - in my limited experience with my children and their friends - has less affinity with cars in general, let alone performance cars. So that may be another variable. Who knows?

I think the 992.1 GT3 will sell like hotcakes. I have no interest in moving on from my 991.2 Touring but based on the frenzy surrounding everything Porsche's GT department releases, I would be shocked if they don't sell every GT3 they make and I am sure the dealers will once again play the ADM game.

I stood in my local dealership yesterday staring at a 991 and a 992 side by side while I was getting some minor maintenance done on my car. The 992 just doesn't look "right" to me, so much so that I went all in and bought a GT3 in the color of my dreams a couple of months back even though I knew the market for 991.2 GT3s was almost certainly going to fall (it has). Love the car so much that I have no regrets at all about pulling the trigger, perhaps the only major purchase that I have not second guessed in my life.

Seatactony - I totally agree with you on your preference for the 991 vs the 992. But Porsche will not miss me and my money when the 992 GT3 rolls out. There will be more than enough takers. The 991.2 in its Touring configuration, for me, is just perfect both inside and out and it has way more horsepower than I can handle.

There's no real mystery. Performance of the 992 GT3 will be roughly similar to the 991.2 GT3 RS, but with a less aggressive vibe. I estimate that the price will be around $15K more than the 991.2 GT3, so it will be possible to get one out the door for well under $200K. It will be hard to get one at first, then it will be less hard to get one. In terms of the feel, the gap between the 992 and 991 GT3 will be a lot less than the gap between the 991 and 997 GT3, and the 991 and 997 cars will remain desirable.
I can't say I'm in the market for the 992 GT3, the 991.1 GT3 is still plenty good for me.

991.1 to 991.2 was $131,350 to $144,650 (per a quick google), so $13,300 (or right at 10% of the 991.1 base).
That augurs for a 992.1 base price of ~$160,000; I think it will come in above $157,500 but below $160,000.
$20,000 of options - which will go quickly if you want buckets, lift, leather, etc. - will put the bottom line price near $200,000 after taxes, destination, and likely gas guzzler tax.

Don't tell the Turbo forum I said this, but it has always boggled my mind that a stripper Turbo S cab is priced way above that of a stripper GT3. I once asked a senior SA at Porsche DTLA why this is. His less-than-convincing reply was: "A Turbo is a Turbo." I was like, uh, yeah, whatever.
