It might just be me, but how can anyone think a 2200kg (Model S 90D) or an 1800kg (Base Panamera) can drive will drive like a 1450kg 911. Let me quote this:

"She wants a car that drives like my 991.1 but without the road/engine noise."

If she wants something that drives even close to a 911, a massive Panamera or Tesla aren't even in the ballpark ...

You've obviously never driven a Panamera.

I did and found it felt very heavy compared to what I arrived in (a Cayman S). It doesn't feel nearly as heavy as a Tesla, but I still felt it was a boat compared to the much more compact and lighter cars I'm used to.

My car has 20" Classics with Pirelli.

Based in what you're all saying, if I move to 19" and Michelin P4 I will be able to substantially reduce road noise.

Has anyone done this? Can you please share your findings?

Which tire do you mean when you say Michelin P4? If you mean the Pilot Sport 4S, they're not available in the 295/35-19 size used on the 991.2.

Agree with the others - Panameras are pretty sweet driving cars.

Like others have said, 991.2 with 19" wheels and no PSE. That will be quieter, but will not be anywhere near silent.

I agree with cug that a car that truly drives like a 911 will have basic design features that tend towards sound levels higher than luxury cars (low weight hence less sound proofing, less compliant suspension hence more vibration transmitted into the cabin, more power--which if not electric will make more noise, etc.).

^ This. Nothing about the 911 is quiet. It is all relative. At low speeds you hear the engine, transmission and little pebbles bounce off the fender liners. They are all good sounds (ok, maybe not the pebbles), but it's a great machine, and it makes nice noises. Take a good test drive on different road surfaces and at different speeds.
