It will never work. Most of the owners will spend too much time inspecting their cars and doing initial body prep (and one guy will be caught putting blue tape on all leading surfaces).

Reminds me of getting my friend's Land Rover from the port of Baltimore very shortly after 9/11.
Us: "Can we come get it?"
Port people: "We are not sure what to do."
Us: "Ok, we will be there tomorrow. Look for two guys driving a discovery with a Uhaul trailer."
Shockingly, they let us in and we just went and loaded it ourselves and drove out.

How is the 2018 a "new model?" The 991.2 was a new model for 2017. For 2018, there might be some minute changes to the car, but I doubt there are any changes to the engine or transmission calibration--at least not with the manuals.
It will be interesting to hear what the justification turns out to be.

Mine is sitting in Emden. I just read on another message board that their dealers are offering a $500 credit for this issue. Not much but.... My dealer in Houston has not called me to offer that..... yet..... I'll give them a chance.

I know someone in DC who works in a relevant profession and knows quite a bit about this situation. She told me it is absolutely EPA retaliation for the VW scandal. Really disgraceful. (The EPA, that is.)

The right people in the administration should be made aware of this issue. Setting aside dieselgate, EPA has a bullseye on it for overreaching and should be put in line sooner rather than later.
