991.1 Base vs Cayman GTS
#31
My solution to this conundrum - I love the 981 cars and owned a 987S - was to buy a lightly pre-owned Carrera S for the same prices a new Cayman GTS and 20K less than a Boxster Spyder (also new) with a top that can't really be used
Space permitting I would own a Boxster S again in a heartbeat.

I'm getting a little discouraged searching for my tailored 991. Finding one with no sunroof, one of my top 3 colors, hopefully at least a few options I like, low miles, warranty (preferably), one owner, meticulous, at the right price isn't easy. But surprisingly I've come very close already, so it isn't impossible.
Cayman GTS is much easier to search for, as it by nature takes care of several of those. I'm starting to think of opening my search back up to it, have an insane amount of fun with it, inevitably get bothered by the lack of ideal headroom, hopefully sell it for not too much a minus, and then get a Carrera. Would make for good stories it nothing else.

Dark Blue Metallic?
For what it's worth, and I hesitate to express this on the 991 forum lest I sound like a sayer of nay, but I agree pretty well with Caritch's assessment, though I've gone the opposite direction, trading a 991.1 GTS for a 981 Cayman. There are certainly things the 991 did better (for me) than the 981. But in the "fun" department, I'd give the Cayman the nod by a significant margin. But again, that's a GT4; haven't driven a Cayman GTS to say for sure in that case.

It depends on if you want the best GT on the market (the 911) or one fine mid engined sports car (Cayman). Drive them both, think of what you want/need. Depreciation will happen, a Porsche is meant to be driven. Both are good, the 911 is of course, the icon.
