My solution to this conundrum - I love the 981 cars and owned a 987S - was to buy a lightly pre-owned Carrera S for the same prices a new Cayman GTS and 20K less than a Boxster Spyder (also new) with a top that can't really be used

Space permitting I would own a Boxster S again in a heartbeat.

Ah if only I were not married and didn't live in the city ...

Nice stable and garage!!

Thanks. I could see how living in the city would be tough. Having a wife that likes cars too doesn't hurt either.

Sold my 2015 CGTS for a 2017 911 GTS4. I loved my Cayman. Very different. 911 is more of a GT and I (personally) prefer it as a DD and will better suit my overall needs. Cayman was more fun.

"Fun"..... See, that is something I really crave right now. Which makes me think the CGTS is for me (though keep in mind, I'm coming from 4 doors, so a 991 is by default a fun toy for me). Plus it looks like a bite size, understated supercar imo. Just gorgeous in the GTS getup. The 991 on anything but the stock wheels also looks stunning, in more of a timeless, elegant "grandeur" way. Porsche really makes these cars shine so brightly that you want both (a rare feat in the car industry where automakers struggle to give cars of entirely different natures individual merits, while Porsche manages to do it with two similarly sized sports cars. Amazing).

I'm getting a little discouraged searching for my tailored 991. Finding one with no sunroof, one of my top 3 colors, hopefully at least a few options I like, low miles, warranty (preferably), one owner, meticulous, at the right price isn't easy. But surprisingly I've come very close already, so it isn't impossible.

Cayman GTS is much easier to search for, as it by nature takes care of several of those. I'm starting to think of opening my search back up to it, have an insane amount of fun with it, inevitably get bothered by the lack of ideal headroom, hopefully sell it for not too much a minus, and then get a Carrera. Would make for good stories it nothing else.

Btw, does anyone know what color this is? It doesn't look like any stock blues of Cayman GTS's that I've looked up. It seems to have a hint of purple in it? Or could be the lighting?

Just looked that up. Definitely could be. It's weird as it seems lighter than night blue, and darker than the "typical" (per Google searches) Cayman GTS and GT4 blues.

Dark Blue Metallic?

For what it's worth, and I hesitate to express this on the 991 forum lest I sound like a sayer of nay, but I agree pretty well with Caritch's assessment, though I've gone the opposite direction, trading a 991.1 GTS for a 981 Cayman. There are certainly things the 991 did better (for me) than the 981. But in the "fun" department, I'd give the Cayman the nod by a significant margin. But again, that's a GT4; haven't driven a Cayman GTS to say for sure in that case.

Both those caymans are sharp! The blue is interesting. Almost went night blue with my 991.2 GTS4. Did not realize so many cayman folks on this site.

The 981's are fantastic cars, and worthy recipients of all the praise. Still, there is no substitute for a 911.

That looks like DBM in some odd lighting.

Very different animals. I owned a C2S and the new Spyder at the same time. The motor makes all the difference in the world.

It depends on if you want the best GT on the market (the 911) or one fine mid engined sports car (Cayman). Drive them both, think of what you want/need. Depreciation will happen, a Porsche is meant to be driven. Both are good, the 911 is of course, the icon.
