Hi All, I'd like to create a one-stop thread where ALL possible parts and tools for a DIY oil change can be quickly identified for purchase. I'll use Suncoast Parts as a primary reference although there may be cheaper sites out there. No affiliation.

Oil Filter Kit
https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/PK997POINT2.html

8mm Allen Wrench Socket (991.1 only as 991.2 models have a plastic drain plug that works with any screwdriver)
Amazon Amazon

36mm Socket (Low Profile)
Amazon Amazon

Magnetic Drain Plug
https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/PKMAGNETIC.html

Oil Analysis Kits
http://m.blackstone-labs.com (test kits are free)

Ramps
Race Ramps Trax-Jax

Torque Wrench??
Oil Pan Collector??

Hope this helps. That's my reddit post up there you linked to! Glad you found it helpful.

Brilliant StealthBoy! Thank you. Will update my first post on this thread to be even more specific now as per your PDF specs.

I see you linked to a 8mm Allen wrench, but ideally you want one that can connect to a socket wrench. More like this:

Amazon Amazon

It's basically called a "hex socket" but I'm just used to calling 5-sided things like that "allen wrenches". You want it to be a socket wrench connection so you can use a torque wrench on it when tightening it back up.

And for the 36mm socket, I would recommend a low-profile one.

It has to be 6-point.

All good info for the 991.1. But the 991.2 has the plastic drain plug, which can be easily removed with a screwdriver and has no required torque setting.

Actually, the 991.2 plug has its own tool:
Amazon Amazon

You can indeed use a flat blade screw driver, but that is more likely to chew up the plug slot. The special tool has both a screw driver-like tab, but also a shallow half-round projection that provides more engagement with the plug slot.

Of course, if you replace the plug each time, the risk is minimal.

This is great, thanks for putting this together. I think a thread I would edit and add to the original post (or just want to mention here) is below, I liked that it was detailed on a 991.2 oil change. For me going to DIY for the first time on my own, it was helpful since I wasn't sure on any difference between the .1 and .2:

For those using the magnetic plug, have you seen shavings on the magnet?

Rhino ramps cost less than half the price of those Race Ramps and are higher (3" vs 6.5"). With a ramp angle of 17 degrees, they are too steep for the front end of most 911s (my 2016 GTS is about 11 degrees) but will be OK to back the rear end onto.
