991.2 working multifunction wheel in a 991.1
#46
Just did the swap. Those resistors are tiny! It took a lot of focus and careful hands but I was able to get the soldering done.
Something worth noting, make sure to fully unplug all of the connectors from the wheel before removing it or the clock spring will come loose and unwind. They don't currently have clock springs with PDK available (as far as I can tell) so it won't be as easy as replacing it. I bought the clock spring that went with my VIN and asked the dealer to verify that it was for PDK since my research led me to believe that it was for a manual. Once I put the new one on it was clear that it was for manuals only. Fortunately I was able to wind mine back up properly and reinstall it.

If new functions need active can buy the code from russian guy,as retrofit multifunction, heating, cruise control.

There are 4 functions(multifunction, heating, cruise control, board computer) active code associated VIN saved in clock spring control module, dealer shop can connect to Porsche system query those code original had actived. If original clock spring damage can’t read out any data by PIWIS,all those code need query out and input it to new clock spring.
If new functions need active can buy the code from russian guy, like retrofit multifunction, heating, cruise control.

Great job Yuan, everything works exactly like it should.

My new (to me) 991.1 GTS has the MF wheel with heating. I'm not interested in the heating since I'm in Norcal and only drive the car in warm weather. If I don't want to mess around soldering those resistors will everything else still work or does the heating have to function?

Some people worry about airbag safety of this upgrade,I think this diagram can explain this question clearly. Airbag is independent system,we haven't made any changes to it.The most important thing is buy genuine airbag of Porsche.

I'm getting a wheel without the sport chrono control dial (or whatever that is called). like I mentioned above mechanic doesn't want to solder those resistors for the heating. Do I go ahead and order the unit with heating support anyway? Just want to make sure everything else is just plug and play going from a 991.1 MF with heat wheel.

Great thread!
I have a 15 991.1 GTS MF wheel w heating.
Can I order the 991.2 GTS MF alcantara w heating from suncoast for the swap?
It would be helpful if somebody could like the part number for the replacement wheels, there are so many!
I will probably do the solder as I want to keep the heating function, although no critical I guess.
This it the 991.2 MF GTS wheel on suncoast. Is this the right wheel?

Question: I planned to sell my 991.1 MF steering wheel after its taken off. Will the heated function still work on the old wheel for resale purposes?
