Of course he didn't. He HAD a manual. If you had wanted a spyder with red interior and PDK he'd have told you what a POS they are.

I've never met a used car salesperson that would consider such a thing...

Wow. You guys are pessimistic. I guess I've had better luck with SA's over the years.

Interesting. Cuz the only thread I've ever started about SAs was praising mine.

Cheers!

My first three on the tree came a bit later, on a 1967 Toyota Landcruiser.

I learned to drive a MT when I was 15, and rescued a 1969 Fiat 124 Spider with a 5 speed from the salvage yard. A few months later, I learned to replace the synchros on the Spider (but I swear it was not my driving).

Ford van, three on the tree. ;-)

Glad I had that experience, and glad those days are behind me.

Every Porsche SA I've met over the years want to get you the car you want.

Some have been helpful to the extreme. Sorry you had a bad experience.

No offense to sales advisors and the one who sold me my 991.2 was friendly, well-informed about 911s, and altogether satisfactory. However, all of these discussions about customers "wasting the time" of SAs is absurd.

At most Porsche stores, buyers are not exactly taking tickets and standing in line to buy new cars. The essence of the SAs job is to speak with buyers and potential buyers. How can doing so possibly be "wasting" an SAs time?

Nice analogy, Noah. I agree that we will always debate the "purist" end of the spectrum. But I think most of us would agree on the other end: getting dropped by a helicopter on a peak is not climbing, and pushing "go" on your self-driving car (and just wait for the future, with programs available for famous tracks) is not driving.

The question is how much aid can we tolerate before we get too close to the fully automated end.
