Default 991.2 order - stereo feedback

Hi everyone. I'm going to pull the trigger tomorrow and put in my order for a MY18 991.2 c2s coupe. I will be leasing the car and trying to get it close to MRM but am not willing to give up any of what I feel are important. I already gave up the Chalk color I so badly want and can't see myself sacrificing anything else. I currently drive a 2014 M5 that I'm going to sell and in it I had the premium B&O speakers. I like the way it sounds, but that's inside a luxury M5. A 911 is more raw and there is no point to get the Burmeister as most of the sound comes from the front. I'm looking for feedback on the standard stereo vs. the Bose and if it's worth getting the Bose. I heard that Bose and Porsche has made the Bose option sound better in the 991.2 vs 991.1. I like good sound, but wonder if it's going to be a waste if the standard stereo is not that different.

Anyone has experience with the standard stereo and does it sound like crap?

I have a B&O system in my Audi and it sounds amazing. Tough to get that sound in any of the audio system options in the 911. I got the Bose and totally redid it with aftermarket and now it is right inline with the B&O system. As you must know the source is quite important to really hear/appreciate the difference. Anyway I suggest going base system and then taking 911 to an audio expert and do it up. Hope that helps

I went with the Bose. I love music of all types but am not an audiophile. At 60 my hearing probably can't tell the difference between good and great, so the Bose is OK for me. Also the 911 has a good bit of road noise at highway speeds.

I'm not an audiophile by any means, but even for me the base stereo is just garbage.

I think my mom's Oldsmobile Cutlass had a better sound system.

I'm comfortable with the Bose system - sounds respectable with DAB and itunes product - However, I'm no audiophile and have lost 20% of my hearing

Since you are ordering a coupe, I can tell you that I did get my 991.2 with Bose sounding to my likes. I had to turn OFF some of the Noise enhancement systems to do so but Fleetwood Mac and ABBA sound great now!
As to Chalk, get exactly what you like otherwise it will always be in the back of your mind!-Richard

I don't know if this is a fair comparison since the 911 might have a better Bose system than the Macan, but my wife has Bose in her 2017 Macan and I have the Burmester in my 2017 911. My impression is that the Bose does just fine, and I can enjoy listening to music while driving her much quieter car. The 911 is far too noisy on the road for me to do anything except crank the volume too high. My opinion is that although the Burmester sounds great with the engine off (i.e. only in my garage), it simply wasn't worth the price given how often I'll have an opportunity to enjoy it.

My opinion doesn't matter - yours does. Ask your dealer if they have something on the lot and will let you have a test listen.

The problem isn't with the stereo. It's the road noise that's significantly higher in a 911 than any other car.
Once you're cruising over 50mph+, no stereo can compensate for that.
When stopped, they are all nice. I have the Bose and it sounds wonderful when the car is not moving.

You have to go bose. The base stereo is terrible, the bose is totally fine. You don't get enough speakers in a 911 to warrant the extra money for the bmstr option IMHO.

The Bose in my 2014 981 base boxster is great !

I wanted to save money with my new 991.2, so I didn't get the Bose. I still have the boxster and I don't regret the 911 ( I used to have a 997.2 GT3 that I used to take on short hops around town and long hauls behind my pickup all over the country. Once I totaled my truck, my 911 GT3 was not enjoyable on a two hour drive on the hwy to go autocrossing.

Fast forward to now and my 911 is much more livable than the GT3 was. New 991.2 has a very smooth ride. And while I swapped out my 19" Advan sports for Bridgestone RE-71R.............well the tire noise above 70mph is insane. I travel with earplugs and when the noise starts getting annoying in they go. I love the car, it's a work of art and fun to drive. And while I have a regular sedan to drive........if I want to take a car for a hour or two drive.....I pick my Boxster. I don't care for the base stereo.....but what I really don't care for is the crazy tire roar.

I have the same model of tire on my boxster that I do on my base 991.2.
Why in the 911 is the roar of the tires so much more ?

Definitely get the Bose, it's actually really good in the 991.2 and is well worth it

Also, I would highly recommend getting the Chalk exterior if you really like the color. The exterior color is one of the biggest things you will always notice when you have the car, so spend the extra money up front to get the color you really want; the extra money spent will never cross your mind again once you have the car. I was the same and decided to get the Lava Orange exterior option even though the $3,000 markup felt like a big deal. Now after 2 months of owning the car, I'm SO happy I did and the color is one of my favorite things about it and gets me excited every time I see it!

Before I bought mine, I tested the standard stereo and the Bose and honestly, in my opinion, the difference is near to none. I advise you to try it with the same SD/pen/mobile phone with the same songs.

Get the Burmester. Heck one good speaker in a home theater system costs that much.

Default As others have noted

The road noise in a 991 is more substantial than lots of cars and part of the driving experience. With windows down (which brings in other aural delights) the stereo is basically background noise. I have no experience with the base unit, but the Bose is perfectly fine for my listening pleasure while cruising with the windows up.
