You also didn't mention where you live. Weather could be a factor if you live in winter weather state. Hands down 991 if you don't require a back seat. You're single, go for it, remember THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE!

Actually you won't. I cross shop a brand new, loaded M4 or a very lightly used C2S. The price point is similar at 80-85.

I started with the M4 being the leader (as I'd prefer a brand new car) and almost 8 out of 10 on bimmerpost told me to go 911 and never look back.

The problem is now that I'm intrigued I almost wonder if I should just go with a brand new C2 given the base 991.2 results

If I compare new 911 vs new M2, I'd always go for 911 as well.

I know 991 is much better car than M2, but I need to be prepared for extra cost to maintain whereas new M2 is covered under factory warranty.
As others state, CPO will help you here. If that coverage is important to you (it is to me!), get a car with a more recent build date like a later 2014 or 2015. The CPO will take you 6 years past the initial in-service date (or two years from purchase for an older car, whichever is longer). So for example, if you get a car with an in-service date of March 2014, you'll be CPO'ed through March 2020.

No to M2. Drove one, very plasticky on the inside. Drives nice but doesn't feel very special.
No to new C2, if finances figure in. Depreciation is killer.
Yes to couple yr old C2, try for CPO. If you buy a 2 yr old C2 with CPO, you end up with 4 yrs of warranty, pretty much same as a new unit.

991.2 C2 intrigues me too as a DD. Wouldn't buy until a used one is available. But then I think - just DD the RS.

Hard to ignore the press's enthusiasm for the M2. Sounds like an awesome car. If I were able to test drive one and/or buy it around sticker price it would deserve consideration. That said a 911, any 911, is much more car in terms of design, interior quality, and probably handling as well. The M2 is not what I would consider a beautiful car with its height and short rear deck.

Keep in mind there is always a TON of hype around new M cars. The media loves these. In the 90's the Honda ricers always had the M as their halo cars. These people have grown up and can now afford little tuners like the M2 and this is the demographic that clicks on internet ads as well as buy the magazines.

I bet it is a neat little car coming from something Japanese or american but it is not on the same level as any P car. Honestly - I'd rather have a Gti.

Just FYI, there are currently 100 used 2017 991.2s of many types on the Porsche North America pre-owned locator site.
While the beginning year control still only allows you to select up to 2016, the ending year setting supports 2017. Do a search this way, then just sort by year.
The local dealer had a 991.2 C2 listed at $99,xxx recently, but I see it has apparently sold.

I was in your same shoes. I ended up finding a 2013 C2S for under $60k last year and have not regretted it. Make sure it is equipped how you intend to use it though. Sport Chrono and exhaust was a must for me.

One criterion: The build quality and materials will be much higher-end in the 911 than the M2 (if well maintained of course), the latter known for fun driving habits but obvious cost cutting on the interiors.

I voted with my pocket book on this one -bought an M4 thinking I'd use the extra room and well hp. Sold it in 10 months and started the hunt for my 991! While on paper they compare, not in the real world - especially on precision of handling/steering etc, chassis balance, fit and finish, don't even talk to me about torque curves and motor sound . 991 is a better car all around, even if it might lose a 0-60 (at least with my 7MT vs a DCT) on a day with warm pavement

OP - how about drive both and buy the one you like more?

We have 2 BMWs and also the 911 GTS in our family.
One of our cars, the 5 series GT is universally despised by the BMW community but we like it and it serves us quite well. The 3 series is my DD and the 911, the weekend weapon.

I'm telling you this because, when it comes to car buying, the last place I'd ask for advice is an Internet forum full of somewhat biased people I don't know anything about.

Vote with your right foot and wallet, in that exact order.

Good luck and let us know which one you end up getting!

I spent 3 days with a M2 and 718S last september (track, rural roads, city). The M2 came out a distant second. Laggy, ordinary interior, odd seating position, ok turn in - not that great on the edge.

Honestly, its not really comparable to a 991.1.

........As an afterthought have a look at 981 Cayman S or GTS, fantastic cars, more boot room than a 991 and if driving is your thing, more intimate and connected too. Brilliant daily if you don't need back seats.

At the end of the day you just have to drive them, then you'll have the right answer for you

I would consider an M2 in addition to a 991 911, but never instead of a 991 911.

I'll go against the grain here...

I get that you're single w/ no kids, but is this still your only car? Do you have access to anything more practical, or so you happen to live in a city with great alternative options such as Uber or a car share? Even when I was single, there's no way a 911 could have been my only car. I needed a real trunk way too often and I often drove my friends around because I hated being driven in one of their cars. They won't enjoy the back of an M2, but a 911 is torture in the back.

Also, how much are you stretching your budget? A $60K M2 comes with 4 years of free warranty AND maintenance. A $60K 911 has or will soon start to cost real money has regular maintenance and minor things start to break. It's not a lemon, but the amount will be greater than $0.
