Default Project "Baby 911R"

Well, after significant debate and consideration, I've decided to begin the process of transforming my '14 991.1S into what I hope to be a baby "R" at a much more appetizing price. My car is a daily driver and as such my intent is to keep it functional and the mods reasonable and reversible. No stripped out interior, racing seats, etc. here. This is being built not for the track but for 100% street use to make the drive to work and back more engaging and playful than it currently is. See MagicRat's post on Bernt Spiegel to understand the sentiment I am trying to capture here.

At first I considered the .1 GTS but I'm less interested in the show-bits and more in the performance aspects and for approximately a $30k price difference between the GTS and my current S, I figured that would go a long way (if not completely) cover the cost of the mods I had in mind and would ultimately get more performance for the $$.

So this will be the first post in a long series. Hope you join me for the ride.

The car I currently have:
Agate Grey / Platinum Coupe
7 MT
sport Chrono
Sport PASM w/ PDCC
20" Carrera III wheels w Pzero N0 spec stock sizes
Sport design steering wheel
Premium Package Plus
14-way sport seats
Standard sunroof
Bose
A few other bits and bobs that I'm forgetting but that covers most of it.

My Plan for the "R" package as it currently stands
Phase 1: Weight reduction
DSC Sport v2 controller (done)
GT4 short shifter (done)
Akrapovic Ti exhaust (goes on Tuesday)
Forgeline GA1R open lug wheel, 20x8.5, 20x11 (future)
Michelin Cup 2 tires in stock sizing all around (future)
Voltphreaks VP-750 Li-On battery (future)
Rear seat delete (future)
Street/race alignment with increased negative camber up front and toe adjustments front/rear (future)
KW HAS (to allow corner balancing with re-distributed weight from above mods)

Phase 2: Power mods
Cobb Accessport with Pro-tune
IPD Plenum
BMC Air filters
Fabspeed sport headers
PCCB (if anyone will sell to me for a reasonable price)
Lightweight flywheel and clutch (when replacement time comes)

Next post: my thoughts on the completed mods: GT4 shifter and DSC sport controller. As always, any and all comments welcomes, especially if you've already completed some of the mods on the list would love for you to chime in with thoughts, comments and suggestions.

Can't wait to see how it turns out. Might be even better than the R.

Cheers,

Shouldn't PCCB go under Weight Reduction rather than Power Mods?

Too bad you couldn't have started out with a PowerKit car.

Is there really a LWFW aftermarket option for the 991 already?

I should clarify when I say power mods. Power mods are indeed power mods as well as those mods deferred due to $$$ constraints

Undecided on the racing stripes, but possibly down the road. I estimate a good 10hp bump to the wheels per side.

PCCB I was quoted 13k new but hoping to find a set lightly used off a C2S for significantly less.

Don't know PN of 911R grille or even if it will fit. If you find out anything let us know!

Power kit car would have been a nice start but very rare on the used market and when i saw my car pop up, locally to boot, I jumped on it after about 6 months of looking. Happy so far and think this setup when done will make me even happier!

I *believe* Sachs has one but don't quote me on that. Since it's not really my focus right now haven't researched it much.

Why not sell your 991S, buy a used 991 GT3, and delete the wing? You're going to dump a huge amount of money you'll never recover into a car that will never not be a 991S, and that could be put toward getting basically the real thing.

I was told the R lwf and clutch fit our 7 speed by my tech ( it's the same box with 7th removed) but have not verified it. I would also consider for your list solid bushings in the suspension and a guard lsd.

Where did you find PCCBs for $13k new? OEM rotors alone are over $22k and I thought the full system was around $32k.

Agreed. Cheaper way to get motor and suspension that's much closer to the 911R, though no manual. Could always wait on the .2 GT3. But where's the fun in that.
