Great point on getting the GT3 instead but even a used GT3 with the upcoming drop in pricing when the .2 comes out will be in the *at best*, $130-140k range by my estimation. In contrast, my basic build above should tip the scales at $105-110k all in. That's still a meaningful $25k+ difference. And the point was already made, I like the manual for my daily driver and the GT3 doesn't come with that. I would also have to delete the rear wing and figure out a way to reconfigure that which I don't think would be as cheap as you might expect. Then dealing with CL wheels, most likely LWBs, no rear seat on a daily with a small child, etc. make it an attractive but albeit imperfect solution. Don't get me wrong, I intend to go and drive a GT3 before I get too far along this project but my hope is to have a sportier car that still carries out all of it's daily duties with ease that ends up being my own 1/1 creation that I've had the joy and fun of customizing to my liking with friends and the online community all having some fun in the process. I think of it as the journey being as much fun as the end product. Thanks for joining for the ride.

Great info, will definitely look into this when it comes time to make a choice (and the bank account refills )

I know a guy who knows a guy in Germany Anything through a US dealer is going to be in the price range you quoted. Unfortunately the aftermarket PCCB market is non-existent but if anyone out there has a .1S with factory PCCB that wants to switch to steelies, send me a pm. I'm not in a rush

I was bonding with your rear-seat delete intentions -- is that not an actual plan?

Not as cheap as you're talking about, but Racing Brake offers a PCCB solution for 15k; or, if you don't really need the light weight as much as you want the wicked big rotors, you could go with their appx $2500 GT3-sized steel BBK, which looks YUGE; you could even paint the calipers yellow if you wanted.

Definitely part of the plan as the kid isn't here yet (Due end of June) Nice to be able to remove the seats and just pop them back in when the time comes. I do not plan on remove the seat belts, just the seats themselves which from reading on another thread is approximately 20 lbs (will weight them once their out). Best part is, it's FREE

Thanks! I did consider the Girodisc rotors for awhile as they save about 2.3 lbs per corner up front I think but for $1200 not sure that $/lb ration is great and that it will result in any meaningful difference as this isn't a track car. The upgrades I chose were more for "bang for the buck" not necessarily to get the lightest weight machine out there.

Another option I didn't go with are to swap my 14-way heated/ventilated seats for the 4-way sport seats. From what I've read that would probably save close to 50 lbs total but since it's a daily I like my heating and ventilation

GT3's are already for sale with asking prices in the low 120's. And the difference between spending $120K on a GT3 and $110K on a 991S is that both cars will be worth what you paid for them. And you probably paid $75K for the S.

Years ago I did something similar with a 911, so I sympathize. It's fun while you're doing it, but I ended up with regrets. You dump an awful lot of time and money into a car that will never be worth anywhere near what you have in it. It's hard to sell because the vast majority of the market doesn't want a modified car. And in the end it's still just a regular 911.

This seems like a much better option. Highly modded vehicles always start off with the dreams of some wonderful creation and generally end up as nightmares that nobody else wants to own.

A stock GT3 would be about the same price, deliver better performance and have much higher resale value when you are ready to move on to something else.

Yeah, buy a 991.2 GT3 in 2018 with some miles on it, and take the wing off.

Appreciate the thoughts guys, one of the reasons why I appreciate this community. Didn't realize .1 GT3s were hitting the low 120s. Might tailor the scope of my mods above w an eye on the market. But for now Akra on Tuesday!

No low mileage 991 GT3s are for sale in the $120s. In that price range, you're talking about a 14 with a fair number of miles on it, which means you're potentially buying into some expense. If you want a low mileage 15/16 car, you're still in the mid $140s to $170s, depending upon spec and miles.

Personally, I'd still go GT3 because the cars are so different than the standard 991, but I get why he wants to mod his car also. Key OP, and I'm sure you've considered this, is that you should expect to get almost no return on the money invested in mods if/when you go to sell your car.

They're not. Search for 15/16 GT3s on Autotrader or Cars.com and you'll find the range for decent cars is much higher than that. If they were in the $120s, I'd already have one in my garage.

I know three people with GT3s. Out of those three cars, they have had a total of FOUR engine replacements. Granted all four times Porsche covered it under warranty but still. If I was in the market for a GT3 this would be enough to at the very least make me wait a couple of years.

I have modified a bunch of vehicles from dirt bikes to street bikes to 4X4s to street cars. I never got my money out of them but that was not the point. I had fun doing it and enjoyed the fact that they were a bit different and just the way I wanted them.

I see a TON of modified Porsches at every C&C I go to and it seems like all the owners really enjoy their cars.

Mod on and post pics.

Here's a 2014 with 6,700 miles w/ an asking price of $127K.

Link

And this is a 2015 w/ 7,100 miles for $129.9K. Link.

Prices have come down quite a bit.
