Alternate View on Depreciation
I see the comments of folks concerned about depreciation of their 911s and I get it. However, if I drive the crap out of my car (daily driver, autocross, general hooliganism) and it's worth $1 when I'm done with it, then I know I maximized my enjoyment of the car. Am I the only one?
BTW - I do take good care of my car so as to hold off the $1 trade-in as long as possible

I'm the same way. My daily driver is a Lexus has 164k miles on it. My 2014 981 has 31k miles on it and it is only a weekend toy.
A car is a consumable, not an investment. (unless it is a 918 and you store it in your garage and never drive it).

I never, ever think about depreciation on my cars. I keep them until they are used up. I hope and expect that I'll have my 991 for many, many years -- and even then it'll be a gift to a grandchild (provided that it'll not be a burden).

If someone bought a Coca-Cola, chilled it down, served it in a nice clean frosted glass, and drank 1/2 of it on a warm sunny day, they'd never say, "my Coke just depretiated by 50%". So, it always seemed silly to me that people think this way about cars. I'm consuming part of the car's value, and receiving benefits (purpose, enjoyment, transportation....whatever) in return.

I don't think I've ever seen a thread on the 991 forum with "concern for deprecation". That's one good thing about this forum and a breath of fresh air. Where have you seen that on here? I'd like to know.
Now the 991 GT3/RS forum? That's where you should put his thread

If depreciation is of main concern, the best route to follow is to buy a low mileage Porsche that is 3, preferably 5 years old. The depreciation thereafter will be negligible.

I have zero concern about depreciation other than for timing my purchase to get max value and warranty on used 911. Past that I don't care. I drive it, track it, maintain it and will sell whenever the mood strikes.

My view is when I purchase the product, my money is gone. Reselling cuts the losses. I don't think of it in terms of depreciation.

+1.....at the end of the road..meaning when the ticker stops ticking....'X' dollars (fill in the X) should be negligible as a percentage to your overall estate and those who will benefit from it. If you were able to afford/ maintain and experience ownership of these magnificent machines - and the fun/ joy they bring - that is pretty special. Consider for a moment the majority of the mundane tasks underway when we experience our cars...making the task 'fun' - driving to work - grocery store - visiting your mother....whatever. Now, more pointedly, if they don't bring joy, NOW you've identified the core issue and should go a more sensible program...whatever sensible means to you.

I've always looked at it as it will depreciate somewhat just sitting in the garage, so the more you drive it, the lower your ownership cost per mile will be. Your enjoyment per mile is the same, so the more you drive, the higher your enjoyment per dollar will be.

I look at it this way. Normal life span of a vehicle is approximately 13 to 15 years. How an owner handles that ownership period will determine its value beyond that and the most telling part is how well built the vehicle is. A simple designed car with the simplest technology, engine and powertrain will most likely be a pleasure to own beyond those years. Vehicles with simplicity and ease of repair by hobbyists will demand a premium. Over complicated designed vehicles will most likely find there way to scrap yards.
I don't foresee these newer type cars being held by owners in the long run simply because of how these manufacturers have made there systems proprietary. When vehicles reach there life span of 13 or so years. Many owners will dump them due to dealer repair costs overwhelming the book values. Repair costs on PDK transmissions and proprietary electronics will eventually supersede owners equity. Forcing the inevitable. Vehicles with under 100k miles will only survive. Those garage queens will probably be the only thing left. Might even demand a premium, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

OT: Overdraft - very sweet that you have an Ice Blue car incoming. Can't wait to see pics of that. One of my top PTS colors if I ever get the chance and have the patience.
