I have bought and sold a few 964's and made money when the market was crazy a few years back. Also owned a 2010 997.2 Sport Classic which I drove 8000 miles in and sold for double what I paid new. My 991.2 Carrera S is the first Porsche I've specced new from the factory just the way I want it. I will use it every day, enjoy every mile and all in the knowledge that it will be worth half what I paid for it when I come to sell it. That's the price you pay for buying a standard model new. The Sport Classic became an asset and as nice as it was to make a big return on that car, I didn't enjoy having to worry about putting miles on her. It's much more fun to forget about resale value and simply enjoy driving your car as often as possible.

When I turned 16 and got my first car, a 1956 VW Beatle, my dad told me a car was the most expensive thing I would ever own. I'm 62 now, and haven't found any evidence to disprove his statement. I can afford my 2016 base Cab, but it still seems like a hell of a lot of money to spend on a car. Furthermore, I leased it because I want the option to return it. The 30 month lease will have cost me approximately 50K when it expires in August of 2018. This is my second Porsche, and I have loved every minute inside these two cars. Is the love greater than the expense? Right now it's a wash. Time will tell.
