The 991.2 steering wheel comes in two variants:
  • Bigger diameter and slimmer rim (regular)
  • Smaller diameter and thicker rim ("GT steering wheel"). This one can obstruct the instruments for tall drivers, though.

The breakup for products is like this:
  • Leather: you can choose between both wheels
  • Alcantara: always GT
  • Carbon Fiber: always regular
  • Mahogany: always regular

There are some more complications from the first editions of this steering wheel which first came in 918, GT4 and GT3 IIRC. Those wheels have more black, more more silver or something in the middle. People have been assembling these to their liking.

There's a REASON RACING CARS HAVE ALCANTARA AND NOT LEATHER on the steering wheel.

Just sayin..

I love the alcantara on my wheel. Also, I started a thread about how well Porsche's alcantara holds up over time (vs leather) and the majority of the responses were extremely favorable.

Get what you like and don't fret about wear with whatever covering you decide on.

Yes, the reason is they ALSO WEAR ALCANTARA GLOVES !!! And alcantara on alcantara is like velcro... That does not apply to a regular commute car (unless you want to look like a dork) that a wife can borrow with fresh hand cream on her hands ;-) Unless her name is Sabine Schmidt. Then you let her do what she wants ;-0

But ditto, you do what you like, it's a $500 wheel, replaceable...

The race car also doesn't make that many miles, much less time, and a rough looking recovering is perfectly fine in race land.

The Sparco gloves would be hilarious on the street. There are pretty cool.

I thought you dumped all that for weight reasons long before you get to that point?
