on PDK, and TIP vehicles (cayenne) if you open the door with the engine on, the parking brake immediately comes on.. (very annoying if you have a PDK vehicle but i understand the point..)

on the M/t i have noticed you can drive off and auto release the brake, but how come opening the door does not automatically engage the parking brake?

I miss having a "hand brake" but feel that this little tidbit could mean several if not many valet people would forget the parking brake

also when turning the engine off, how come the vehicle does not automatically activate the parking brake (as with ferrari/lamborghini)

curious if anyone has tips, besides leaving the car in gear to ensure it's not going anywhere,... maybe theirs a seatbelt+door combo that activates the parking brake automatically?

Every time I use it I can never remember if its push or pull to switch it on and off.

I miss the good old between the seats hand brake.

No room in the center console but they certainly could have put it in the door sill like the 944/968.

FYI, the parking brake will auto release when you drive of in a forward gear AND reverse. But, you must have your seat belt fastened.

I'm annoyed the brake won't release when I release it if I'm not buckled and/or don't have a foot on the brake.

I loathe the nanny interference. I might just be moving the car from the driveway to the garage... all level surfaces so I actually don't need to hold it with the foot brake... but we're not going anywhere until I do.

The brake release switch on our Audi is right next to the gear selector lever. It's nice because I can release the brake with my thumb as I put the car in gear. I would like to see something similar in the Porsche. To make things worse, it functions opposite of the Porsche switch (push to release, pull to set).

The handbrake does automatically engage in certain circumstances. When my battery failed on my MT car, the handbrake automatically engaged. Was a right pain for the mechanic who had to try to move the car from a petrol station as I had stranded there, right next to the pump.

The garage would not allow an auxiliary battery to be used to start the car, but connecting a power source to the connector inside the cabin meant that the tech could at least release the handbrake.

I definitely don't miss a handle between the seats with a cable that's always stretching and in need of adjustment.

Best implementation, IMO, is in my Lexus. Completely automatic. Put the car in park....brake engages. Put the car in drive....brake disengages. Simple.

But that would only work with automatic cars though whilst for manuals it would need to be different.

There are two buttons on the Lexus. One to turn on the automatic operation on and a manual on off. Would be very easy to have switch for the automatic function in the center console on PDK cars (I've yet to see a car without a few blanks) and just not have that on the manual cars. Still using the same brake, and you always want to have an manual override, but when you hit the auto button, the computer does it for you.
