Default Several close calls.....

Senior management has not been pleased with my recent 991 acquisition, which about a month ago I topped off with a nasty speeding ticket. So I lawyered up and today was my day in court. Got it all reduced to 5mph over and no points. (from 25 over and 4 points) Its a real BS section of road where the speed limit is 40 and everyone generally does 50-60. In fact the cop advised me they normally don't pull anyone unless they are going 60 or higher because they know its sort of artificially low. Porsche tax I guess. Either way no points so that should make the wife happy.

Then yesterday on my way to work (5am or so) I am on a highway in a section where it goes from freeway to back road, and a deer decided the middle of the road was a good place to loiter. The G-meter said I generated .96 G of stopping power. (not bad for a set of Artic Alpins) It was a real butt puckering moment, the look on the deers face was very similar to the one from Tommy Boy. Thankfully no one was directly behind me because I would have gotten rear ended for sure.

On the way home different back road, but I saw two deer darting around in a field that was obscured by some trees, and sure enough they decided to cross where I would have been if I didn't come to a stop. Threw the hazards on and the person behind me was confused for a moment as to why I stopped and then gave me a thank you wave when he realized why I stopped.

I'll post more when I get some time, but the 991 is a damn enjoyable way to spend a 121 mile round trip commute.

How much for the lawyer, and court costs, and ticket?

The deer are in rut this time of year and loose there senses. Always use caution from November though Christmas while driving. Heads up.

Too many deer. Not enough hunters and not enough DIY jerky makers.

Lawyer was $600 ticket went from ~$250 to ~$150. The points would have been the killer long term. PA only knocks 3 pts per year off, so 4 would have taken 2 years to fully clear. I am driving way too much these days to roll the dice if something were to happen that would add more points. Though since I have been driving like a bit of a grandma, I am getting 27 mpg in mostly stop and go traffic. Where I can legally, I will give the car the occasional Italian tune up. In retrospect I am kind of happy I don't have an S or a Turbo. Outside of a track there is no place to enjoy it legally for more then a few seconds at a time. In my old car I could go faster and it was more under the radar. In this thing I seem to get a bit more attention so I have to be more the model citizen then the hooligan.

OK... BS section where the cops give you a wide leeway.

But, by your own admission, you were doing 65 there, so you were above what everyone generally does and you were over where even the cops give you a bye.

I wouldn't call that a Porsce Tax in any way. I'd call it warranted.

But, good job on challenging it and getting it reduced. State still gets some revenue and you don't get the points and higher insurance.

I would have gladly taken 5 over on the chin and I wouldn't have even involved a lawyer if this section of road had properly posted speed limit signs. The ticket was warranted, but appropriate speed limit signs are also warranted, because who knows how one of his buddies in the same department would treat this stretch of road on a later date.

Yes. She was not happy, but she is growing to be more okay with it now. Not collecting the points certainly helps.

Already have one, and it would have been useless in this scenario, because they were measuring me between painted lines. I discovered that they were hiding someone in an obscure parking lot strictly for measuring and another one of his friends up the road was doing the pulling.

I know enough to not go fast in between the painted lines, but I thought I was in the clear, and I guess this time I was not. Device they used was something called Accutrack. (basically a stop watch with some additional features) Local cops in PA cannot carry radar guns, they have to use VASCAR or Accutrak like devices. Only staties can use radar or laser. The way I look at it is, its taken 13.5 years of very careful driving in PA to get nailed once. If it happens again I only hope its another 13 years from now. Now I've had close calls in the past.

In one case I realized what was going on and I stopped before I reached the second line, and the officer still gave me a no point violation for defeating a traffic control device. IE defeating him.

I told him I thought I saw some wildlife and that's why I panic stopped. I didn't mention by wildlife I meant a "cop hiding in the bushes", I was implying deer, or a fox.

If it was a 100 foot distance yes, but this was 250 feet. Their margin of error drops quite a bit as the distance increases.
