The depreciation curve is MUCH more favorable on the pre-owned cars once the initial $30K-$40K big hit has happened in the first 2-3 yrs on average.
The huge success of HFS and hopefully this thread is attributed to that.
For example, a 2012.5-2014 991.1 in the $65K-$80K range will have a much lower cost of ownership going forward.
I have seen some nice 991.2 deals as well. The next 12-24 months should produce some nicer deals there as more hit the market.
We're not investing in cars here, but why throw more money out the window than you have to??

The lack of 991.1 S depreciation in the last few years is kind of an anomaly... A big hit in the first two years of ownership (all .1's are past that hurdle now), then surprisingly flat. Most luxury vehicles are still taking pretty big depreciation hits years 3-6.
.2's are still in that first few years free-fall, it will be interesting to see if they flatten out as well.
I agree that cars don't make great investments, at least not unless your playing at a MUCH higher level of speculation in rare cars, but I absolutely hate big depreciation.

At the same time, there are over 600 NEW 2017 & 2018 991.2 Carrera's of ALL variants. Base through S/GTS/ Targa. This is just cars.com
So as many 991.2's in two model years (new and pre-owned), as there are pre-owned 2012.5-2016 991.1's.

best deal I've seen was a 81k for a 17k mile car with 117k sticker and m/t. Passed on it because I want at an S, but I think its still available. Looks like a nice car.
Anyone know a deal for an S in the 90s?

Sounds about right... "Stripper" doesn't worry me... In fact I kind of like low option manuals. I have a 996 Turbo and have thought about getting a 997 Turbo, but now that Cobb has the ECU cracked, really thinking of a 991 turbo (lowercase) as my next turbo/Turbo.

This thread badly needs a bump!
Just passed on a 991.2, of course someone else grabbed it, and I'm having non-buyers remorse...
2017 Base, 32K miles, $98K original build with Sport Chrono, Sport Exhaust, Sunroof Delete, Manual, black over black, sunroof 'delete', red belts, perfect condition.
Ask was $76K, negotiated price was $73K with full CPO (1.5 years remaining on the factory warranty and another two years/unlimited mileage), or $70K with remainder of factory and no CPO enhancement.
Definitely not the build for everyone, but would have been perfect for me, except for the color. Hesitated due to the black, just didn't want the work.
So anything else out there in a lightly optioned 2017 base manual? If it was any shade of grey, silver, or blue, It would have been mine!
Anyone else here the lucky one who grabbed it?

I've been scouring the sites for a while as I am actively searching. I'm looking for a .2, C2, PDK, SC. First choice is Graphite blue, deep blue metallic, sapphire blue or GT silver. Also looking at white cars. Trying to find something under 30K miles and under $90K. Dash and steering wheel must be black (I like the two tone interiors, but don't like it when the entire interior is beige or tan or grey).
Thought I had I finally found one yesterday, then saw it had been in two (!) accidents. Bummer...
Am still looking everyday - I literally go through every base carrera for sale on autotrader, cars.com and cargurus every other day.
Car shopping is fun though, so I don't mind.
