You can try, but I don't think they care. Friend of mine with a 996 said he had to replace his, so Porsche has had many years to correct this.

My 991.1 needs the rears replaced. The front ones aren't dropping but don't feel that strong. That worries me even more as I'd hate to get dinged on the head with that latch on the frunk.

Go generic if you can.
The Porsche struts (frunk and rear lid) are known to fail prematurely, and their prices are ridiculous.
A 5 minute DIY swap.

Shoot, it reminds me to change mine. They've been out and I ordered the replacement parts but forgot all about it..

I'd probably take my chance with the generics as poorly as these factory ones performed. Surprisingly bad quality for a six figure car. They should probably go back to a stick and plug to hold the thing up.

yah I got some generic ones off Amazon that work great. I think I paid around 30 dollars each. I think the brand is Stabil or something like that, which I believe is an OEM MFG.

Takes 5 mins top to replace.

These rear lid struts are super easy to replace yourself. From what I remember (did this 1 year ago) just take a screw driver or a pick and pull out the tab and the old ones should be easily pulled off.

I bought these off Amazon and they work great.

They'll charge you 2 or 3 hundred bucks to replace them at a dealer.

When my vehicle was under warranty I called my dealer and was instructed to bring the car in for inspection. A Porsche Tech with his manager inspected the front & rear struts by opening and closing the lids. They determined all four struts were weak and replaced them on the spot under warranty in less than 5 minutes.

Did you use this on 991.2 or 991?

Mine just went out too...

Good news is that they are only $45 each on FCPEuro.com - https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/por...us-99151255100

And everything they sell comes with a lifetime warranty.

Thanks for posting the link. I got a pair for $24. I figure no need to buy OEM, as this is the third pair I've had on my 2015 991.1: just normal road driving, too!
