As long as I'm using the Porsche charge-o-mat, I can use any outlet. I've tried the cig lighter, passenger footwell and the one in the glove box, they all worked.

Here's my thread I started earlier this year on the Porsche Battery tender:

I see your Porsche charger looks to be a little different than my buddies.... which he recently purchased. Perhaps that has something to do with why your Porsche branded one still did not work in your outlets.

The one I am using looks like this, with 3 lights on top and 3 lights on bottom. http://suncoastparts.com/product/95504490054.html

Where my Ctek 3300 would throw an error mode after several minutes when the outlets powered down, the P branded maintainer keeps on charging. As you indicated, there must be something about the P branded maintainer that allows the outlets to remain live.

Very interesting....but good to know. Every now and then, it apparently pays to buy the branded stuff. Even when it appears the Ctek 3300 model is the same thing....apparently it is not
I have used both the Porsche branded battery maintainer and the CTEK 3300 on my 2015 991 GTS. They both work fine. I use the passenger footwell 12V socket. I used the Porsche maintainer for a couple years in both my 997's and my current 991 GTS. My Porsche branded unit took a lightening hit and I replaced it about 6 months ago with the CTEK 3300 and it works perfectly.

One potential advantage to the CTEK 3300 over the Porsche unit is that it has the third setting for charging batteries in cold conditions, AND for use with AGM batteries like our 991 has.

Interesting. It's certainly very weird that for some, the Ctek 3300 works and others it does not.

It is interesting since the CTEK 3300 and the Porsche unit are essentially the same. If you look at the bottom of the Porsche unit, it is marked CTEK, at least mine was. There may be some significant differences in other CTEK units and the Porsche one, but I do believe that the CTEK 3300 and the Porsche unit are basically the same, except for the additional charging mode that the CTEK 3300 has.

There was another thread on here about 6 months ago where a guy said his Porsche branded unit would not work with any of his 12V sockets, after about 30 minutes of charging. Apparently his sockets did turn off after 30 minutes. I have not checked Suncoast Porsche Parts website recently, but at one time they said that the Porsche charger, or any type I guess, would not work when connected to the 12V sockets in a Macan, but that your dealer could program the car so that it could work.

That of course would not explain why the Porsche unit would work and the CTEK wouldn't. I am pretty sure he said his dealer told him that the 2016 991's had been changed and apparently were now like the Macan and would not allow operation of the charger through the 12V sockets.

EDIT:

I just checked Suncoast's Porsche Parts website and they do say the following about the Porsche maintainer use with 12V socket in the Macan:

Note for Macan "**" Macan models can't be charged at the 12 volt plugs inside the car. To bypass this, visit your local Porsche dealer and they can code your Macan to accept a battery maintainer. Or purchase the additional battery clamps and charge the battery directly.

I've been using the CTEK 7002 for the last 3 years without any issues. My vehicles sit for 90+ days at a time. I use the footwell plug in the 991. Truck, mower, etc are on the battery.

If it's a Macan, the instruction Book says the interior outlets may need to be programmed to stay on by the dealer service shop.

I've had a 2009 Cayenne GTS, 2014 Cayman S, 2015 Macan Turbo and 2015 C2S, and have had no trouble with outlets turning off when on my CTEK 4300. It works great and I recommend it. I use mine with the extension cord, bumper, and cigar lighter plug.

If u live in the snowbelt, u should consider the Polar version:
"The MUS 4.3 POLAR charger has been specifically developed to offer excellent all around charging. The special cold weather performance and adapted AC and DC cables handle severe cold down to -22 degrees F (-30 degrees C). It is an advanced microprocessor controlled battery charger providing unrivalled performance on batteries from 1.2Ah to 110Ah.

The MUS 4.3 POLAR charger is loaded with features including diagnosis of battery condition to establish if it can receive and retain a charge, patented automatic de-sulphation program and a special reconditioning function that will revive and restore deeply discharged and stratified batteries. The 'Snowflake' mode ensures ideal charging performance when in the most extreme cold conditions. The patented Float/Pulse maintenance makes the charger ideal for long-term maintenance. The entire process of battery testing, charging and maintenance is easily followed on the clear LED display.

The charger is a fully automatic (connect and forget) 12V charger with 8 charging steps. The RECOND and SNOWFLAKE modes operate individually or together in both 0.8A and 4.3A programs, providing great flexibility for the user. It offers a wide charging range on all lead-acid battery types from 1.2Ah up to 110Ah, with additional maintenance capability to 160Ah.

This charger is splash and dust proof and above all, very easy to use. It also has safety features to prevent sparks and protect against reverse polarity and short circuiting ensuring that you and your vehicles electronics are kept safe."
