Porsche isn't always right on with some of these options. Just another $$$ option to sell. Which is fine if you're paying for a car and want it customized like you want.

I tend to agree with both of you. I was 90% of the way there before, and probably 98% there now. You guys know how you can start to second guess yourself when you are spec'ing the car exactly how you want it.

I think it will look good and subtly set your car apart.
Really? I'm not familiar. Any specific 911 you are referring to? Maybe pictures? Would be interested to see.

Thanks.

Black door handles on silver would look really good and help with a retro look if that's what you're going for.

It's the Painted Rear Lid Intake Grill that I'm interested in seeing. It's available on the configurator but does not show on the car. I asked my sales guy and he was not even aware of it until I presented it to him. My main question is, is the entire grill painted or just the slats that are currently gloss black. If it is just the gloss black slats, then I may consider it.

I don't know, I'm not hating the black door handles or painted engine grill.

Door handle, lower sport design mirror, and headlight cleaners in black.

I think it will enhance the look on certain colors, Miami Blue being one of them. On darker colors, not so much.
The money they charge is hilarious though, don't you think? Of course, good for them and anyone who can afford to pay it.

re: the door handles. I'll give you the 2.7 G-Series, the SC (and maybe some 3.2 Carreras? I can't remember) had good-looking black door handles. The reasons, though, that they were different then our current 991 handles are these:

a) they were culturally cool because all door handles since the dawn of time had been chrome; Porsche was now black anodizing all the chrome on 911s, i.e. the window trim, door handles, etc.) and this made the 74+ 911s stand out from the now-dated long-hoods, with their chrome fittings. In other words, it was a very neat new trick, worthy of spreading around as much of the car as possible. I was just an early teen when the SC came out, and I remember being WOWED by the black trim.

b) the old handles were much less integrated into the body than ours are now. As such, they already stood out and broke up the lines, whether they were chrome, black, or if somebody had figured out how to paint them body-color and have it hold up. I've always assumed there was a physical reason door handles were always made of steel and chrome plated or black-anodized rather than painted as part of the body finishing process. But even if it could have been painted, that was a big old loop handle, with a big thumb-push cylinder protruding out of it iirc. It wouldn't have blended.

Finally, in the Miami picture above, too much is going on: silver wheels, chrome exhaust tips, black door handles, painted engine grill; cohesiveness is missing.

I'm surprised Porsche doesn't make black standard and force everyone to pay for color matched handles.
