Which Audio System do you Have?
#46
I'm sure you've already thought of this, but - the install concerns me. I should say; finding the right shop, and them understanding your product, and it's settings/tuning concerns me. Also, replacing speakers creates an opportunity for creaks, rattles and other noises.

I have Bose, and I'm pleased with the sound. Then again I think I'm on the low end of expectations in this company.
I have H/K in my S class. It's good, but Bose in my 991 sounds better to me. If faced with making a choice to spend on the Bose again, I would do it. I have not listened enough to other's Bermester systems to know if I would take that leap, but Bose seems worth it to me.

Bose. Not satisfied with the audio sound at all. I really hope what you're developing is not an easy/straight forward DIY installation job with a reasonable price/cost, otherwise I would have to upgrade something that I wasn't planning to on my 991.1 CS2 Cab. LOL

Excellent. It's nice to have choices.
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Given your teams 911TTS project, I'm assuming that you know a great deal about the 991, and its challenges.

I'm in the camp that thinks all the negative criticism of BOSE is overdone. I'm NO fan of Bose. At the risk of sounding like a jerk - we have a very sophisticated sound system at home and I've got a good ear. I've had Burmester in a C2s cab. I've had BOSE in a 981 BS and now the C4s cab. With proper source material, dis-enabling the automatic sound nannies, and some testing, treble/bass setting, surround on/off on *every* input the BOSE system provides very good quality sound whether or not we're fast or slow, top up or down, etc. IMHO messing with the Porsche-provided electronics is a low return on investment. But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Burmester in my 2015 991.1 TT --
Unbelievable clarity at both low and high volumes. From classical to trance to rock to pop, I can't believe the improvement over the Bose in my previous 997 911S.
For those who feel audio is important, I urge you sample the Burmester at your local dealership with your own music.
Like most options, it's all about priorities and budget. Happy hunting.

Spent the extra 2k+ on Bose, not because it's very good, but because the Base system is so bad it should have limiters that only allow it to tune to AM talk radio. My 996 and 997 Turbos with Bose were much, much better. No idea why. The 996 came with a high-grade demo CD so I have been able to compare from the same source.
There might also have been different variants of the 997 Bose, I never quite got whether "high end bose" was a change in designation or an upgrade you could buy.

The 997 Bose had higher quality speakers than the 991 has. It was downgraded to be a value priced option for the 991 when an upsell to the Burmester was introduced. The actual speakers are about $10 each worth on the open market for non-car speakers.

Here's the midrange label and the front three-way speaker setup. The tweeters are rubbish but the midrange and woofer are passable with some tuning and decent power.

I have been "downgrading" systems for a while now... came from a Dynaudio system to a Volvo high quality non-dynaudio to the base system now in the 911...
Used to be audiophile, now I listen to NPR most of the time, so don't care much...
Anyhow, if something quick, nice and cheap comes out, Ill check it out, provided no impact in resale value is anticipated...
