I have the Burmester in my C4S and love it. Many years in the audio business and I am amazed at the bass level. I wouldn't order even a base C2 without it.

The Burmester I heard in a 991 was way better than the Bose in my Cayman and Spyder. It also sounded a lot better than the B&O in my RS5. Much richer sound.

Spent approx. $900 for a full system replacement in the X-tended cab 2003 Chevy p-up truck (approx same cubic interior space as the 991). Granted I installed so no labor costs. JVC touchscreen DD head unit with bluetooth, 7-band EQ, USB plug in I-Pod, bla-bla. Sony seperates in the front doors and a self amplified 8" Bazooka tube under the rear seat. Sounds better than both the Bose system (in my 15 GTS Cab and privously owned 50th) and the $ 5000+ Burmester optioned systems I've heard in friends 991's-not kidding. If I were to order a new 991, would go with a no cost base system (a least the some of the wiring is in place) pull it and use the savings $$$ toward a full blown custom system from Nick (if I were in the area) or a reputable local installer. T

+1 on the RS5. I had a custom 10" sub installed in the trunk on my 2013 RS5 and then it was reasonable.

I have the Bose.

It was in the list of Must Haves for no reason other than it was a reasonable priced upgrade.

But to be honest I did not compare the 3 different sound systems.

Bose in my GTS but it's best mixed in with the Sports Exhaust!

I don't care much about the audio system sound in a sports car so I got a Bose, because that's the very least a 911 should come with anyway. The Burmeister is expensive, and I would rather spend that money on a chassis or interior option. I usually only listen to FM or watch a DVD when stuck in traffic. On open roads I have the audio system off most of the times so that I can hear the engine.

@MagicRat - The swap is technically "possible" but would require swapping the audio systems as well. The CDR31 unit in the Spyder uses analog audio output to the amplifier and the PCM3.1 in the 911 uses fiber optic, so there's no way to make the audio system in the Spyder work without the Burmester or Bose amp. Similar scenario in the 911, since the CDR31 doesn't have a fiber-optic output you would need to at the very least replace the amplifier to make the Pioneer unit work with the speakers you have. Good luck!
Thanks Nick. I would be quite happy to drop the Burmester amp into the Spyder and get a new one for the 911 to go with the Pioneer, so let's see what can be done. Will keep people informed!

Burmeister here.

I would say Base or Burmeister. If you want to spend BOSE money why not spend a little more?

Hey Nick,

Bose in a 991.

I like the sound of "some new product development". I hope it's a kit that will improve on the Bose system. Similar to the modular radar/Laser kit that you developed.

Regarding improving the Bose for a reasonable price; Add a DSP in line with the Bose Amp, and replace the tweeters ? I'd be very interested in this (or more) as a kit sent to us. Along with a recommendation for a competent audio professional in our area, that's able to carry out the install.

Regarding your question as to the quality of the Bose system - with a good source and the car idling. I'd give it a 5.5 - 6 out of 10. Other than that, it sounds tinny. The 991.2 has improved specs, however I haven't listened to it.

Thoughts ?

Bose.

Overall, I think that it's a decent system but nothing to write home about. At lower volume levels, it's acceptable. But if you turn it up, you start to notice that the system has shortcomings. I decided to skip Burmeister as I don't care *too* much about an in-car stereo.

I have Bose, and I'm pleased with the sound. Then again I think I'm on the low end of expectations in this company.

I have H/K in my S class. It's good, but Bose in my 991 sounds better to me. If faced with making a choice to spend on the Bose again, I would do it. I have not listened enough to other's Bermester systems to know if I would take that leap, but Bose seems worth it to me.

I don't have a lot of details to share openly yet, but you definitely won't be disappointed — and you're spot on with what it would take to make the Bose system much more livable.
