Which Audio System do you Have?
#18
Bose, I use Spotify 100% of the time, so it sounds okay to me. As Jnosol said, "the Bose in the 911 blows away the BMW's HK system", and that is what I was used to for a long time.

I have a stripper C2 with the base stereo. It is just OK. More than enough features for me but the sound could be much fuller with more base and sometimes the radio gets staticy - even in So Cal. My next car will have the Bose for sure. Doubt I'll pay the tariff for a Burmiester though.

Spent the extra 2k+ on Bose, not because it's very good, but because the Base system is so bad it should have limiters that only allow it to tune to AM talk radio. My 996 and 997 Turbos with Bose were much, much better. No idea why. The 996 came with a high-grade demo CD so I have been able to compare from the same source.

Bose in my current 991.2. Had Bose in my 991.1 and I liked it better for some reason - still tweaking it in the .2.
Had the base system in my 997.2 and did not like it at all.
Base system in the Cayenne, which is not too bad.

Love my Burmester. Had a Bose before in my last 991S - the Burmester is a nice upgrade.
If I was ordering new, I would probably go with the Bose. With depreciation, very happy to pick up one with the Burmester in a CPO car...

Burmester in the 911, base in the Spyder. Burm is great, base is, like, surprisingly OK. It has no satnav or phone though, and this thread is probably the best place to mention my latest strange idea.
Which is to transplant the head unit from the 911 into the Spyder to give it phone capability + satnav and then get a Pioneer head unit for the 911 to give it Carplay, non-terrible satnav etc. Am taking the cars into a high-end audio place in the coming weeks to see if it might be possible.

Thanks for all the detail responses — this is exactly what I was looking for!
@MagicRat - The swap is technically "possible" but would require swapping the audio systems as well. The CDR31 unit in the Spyder uses analog audio output to the amplifier and the PCM3.1 in the 911 uses fiber optic, so there's no way to make the audio system in the Spyder work without the Burmester or Bose amp. Similar scenario in the 911, since the CDR31 doesn't have a fiber-optic output you would need to at the very least replace the amplifier to make the Pioneer unit work with the speakers you have. Good luck!

I have the Burmeister and find it to be mediocre. It is no better than the Bose from my 981 (and some ways worse). The B&O from my wife's Audi sounds much better. I too am an OCD audiophile so am rather picky about my audio.
