Thank you very much! Do you still have that black 991.1 S you picked up earlier this year, or did you trade in on the 991.2?

With 911 miles on mine, I mostly love it. Like anything, there are a few pet peeves.
Back up camera has a fisheye distortion that makes the efficiency of my rearward maneuvers less confident. I haven't seen this level of distortion in my other vehicles. It does appear to be accurate, but not a great representation.
A few PCM/Carplay issues. Several times when plugging in my phone, I am unable to use the regular tuner. It is as if the Carplay refuses to cede control to the regular PCM. This has happened infrequently, but is annoying nevertheless. I simply unplug my phone and the problem goes away. I've programmed the diamond button on the steering wheel to move between radio stations, but it only hops between presets if the Tuner screen is displayed. Otherwise, it hops to the next available channel, whether it was a preset or not.
Mine was a build-to-order, so I only have myself to blame - but if I were to do it all over again I'd get the GT wheel with the heated/multifunction options. I have the regular heated/multifunction wheel and selected it because it looked better. That may be true, but I think I'd like having a slightly smaller diameter wheel. It's hardly the end of the world, but while we're picking nits, there's mine.
I still love the MT (although don't need 7th gear) and love the black/bordeaux interior. Ventilated seats are a must and the fact that you can heat and ventilate simultaneously is actually a nice feature. I agree that it would be nice if the car could remember what mode you're in, but the dial with the sports chrono package makes short work of that with each start up.
18 way seats hold you in place well, but as a larger human (6'1", 220) the seats remind you of their existence after 3+ hours of driving.
I have PPF added and am happy with the application of Suntek. I wish I'd protected it somehow prior to my departure from Atlanta's PEC delivery. I picked up a small stone chip on my drive home prior to getting PPF. That was annoying.

What I don't like about my 991.2 ?
I think Carplay is poorly executed but I guess that's more an Apple problem rather than a Porsche one. Still disappointing to the point that I'm not really using it and I use the normal PCM functions.
Also front suspension could use some work in my opinion. The front of the car just doesn't feel firm enough when cornering at high speed (not at the track). The car doesn't feel planted and I feel like the front bounces just a little bit. With PASM activated it gets better. Wonder if DSC could solve this.

Carplay Pros - its easy and less distracting to use common smartphone phone functions. Its not buggy like some PCM functions. Once the trial 3 months AT&T data subscription ends, your access to Google maps with live traffic ends, unless of course you add data subscription from AT&T to your car. With Apple Carplay, Apple Maps automatically shows you traffic data utilizing your phone data plan. Accessing Siri, better than Porsche Voice Control, is easy; you can press the control stalk or touch the touch screen. Cons - its a pain to connect the USB cable to the phone in the center console to initiate Carplay. I keep forgetting to take the phone with me when I leave the car, all the time. You can't answer calls using control stalk as PCM does not recognize phone once Carplay is activated. You have to use the touch screen to answer (the answer icon is large and clear though). Sometimes the navigation cues overlap audio sources without automatically fading audio source like its supposed to. To reset, you have to disconnect the USB cable from phone and reconnect it; reconnecting the USB cable while driving is a v v difficult task.

After 8K miles:
I wanted CarPlay (CP).
I hardly ever use it!
All the functions such as Contacts are available by Bluetooth.
Music is OK, better volume if connected to CP by USB.
No WAZE! No Weather.
I like Google (EARTH) maps much better than Apple Maps.
I pay the ATT monthly fee gladly.
If using CP and I get a WAZE audible, PCM audio function does NOT reconnect.
Major problem.
I mostly use WAZE without being connected to CP.
Mostly drive without CP.
PCM Voice works as well as anything and i have learned what works and what doesn't.
With the multifunction wheel, the TFT control stalk is gone and the right rotating selector on the wheel easily accesses all the TFt displays and parameters. I have the left rotating selector configured for audio volume.
The wheel also has answer and hang up buttons.
Did I Post it's heated?
Simply brilliant tech!
My hands hardly leave the steering wheel.
Having to use a USB cable each time you enter the vehicle and not having a 'dock' is a no-go for me.
Except for CarPlay, the vehicle is brilliant!-Richard

I think Carplay might be more useful for people already living in the Apple universe. That would be me. So I do use Carplay quite a bit. The message app is quite nice in that it can do audio but as with all this stuff it can be distracting. I am not interested in adding to the increase in car fatalities that is happening due to all these gadgets. I also do not like having to plug in the usb to the phone and like others, I often leave the car and forget my phone. I like google maps better than Apple maps, but I also like using Siri with Carplay and I never use Siri in any other situation. On the other hand, Google maps is pretty good at finding destinations over the internet-often better than Carplay options. I end up using a mix of both. Really annoying is the AC and fan always coming on. Why is that? Am I missing something. Can we program something to change it? Otherwise the car is great. BTW, overall the PCM is really great with lots of options. We used it on a multi-day road trip and loved it. I wish we could get WAZE on the car screen. Is that possible? Cars these days are massively complex with all the electronics. Amazing they work as well as they do.

I have had my 911 Targa 4S since July 2016. I have 2500 miles thus far and love the hell out of it. This is my first 911 but I did drive many 991.1 for months of making my decision to go with 991.2. I really have no regrets except for not choosing the MT. I know I have the heaviest 911 of the pack but for the type of driving I do, it suits me perfectly. I wanted the classic feel of the Targa and I really love the low end torque (previous car was a Macan Turbo....boost boost boost). I did order the front axle lift and use it on a regular basis living in NYC, its a must have.

.... As best as I can tell, one cannot save the combination of vents....for instance, In my case, most of my driving is with the top down, so i prefer to have the AC coming only from the footwell and the dash, not the windshield as that does not help me at all.

All new BMW carplay is wireless also. Had a 2017 X5 demo, just connect and done. I am not sure why the do not just push the update to the PCM.

I am in the "Apple universe".
WAZE cannot be displayed in the PCM monitor nor TFT display.
For my 981B I have T-Designs iPhone holder installed and monitor WAZE that way.
I plan to take the holder out of the 981B and install in the 991.2.
Maybe install an iPad in the 981B (no PCM).
The iPhone has a small screen but WAZE now has very visible sound and audio alerts with or without USB to CP.-Richard
BTW, what is required is wireless CarPlay that mirrors whatever you can display on your iPhone.
Tech people tell me that is not possible do to screen config and resolution differences between Porsche/Apple CarPlay and iPhone(mostly Retina).

I love it and love the drive and all the options. I don't regret a single thing. At first (when I saw the spy photos) I was skeptical of the 991.2 redesign, but Porsche nailed it completely.

No regrets. I feel like I'm driving a 911 and an Aston all at the same time. Great sports car and GT car in my mind. Glad I went with PSE, PDK, Burmester, and full leather with deviated stitching. Well worth the extra coin.

I only have 344 miles on my car, but I do like the Google maps. So far, I also like the sport exhaust and sport chrono - good combo. I turned on the stereo once, Bose, but I rarely play music in my sports car. I probably could have gone with the standard system, but didn't want to regret at least a bit of an upgrade there. I had the ventilated and heated seats in the Cayman and like those options. This morning, was grateful for the heated steering wheel. The steering wheel controls are a "meh" for me. I haven't tried the LED headlamps at night.
I also ordered the fire extinguisher - it isn't in the way and hopefully will never be needed. After seeing a woman stuck in her burning car and a good samaritan with an extinguisher buying here time to be rescued, I encourage all to order this $140 item. You could save a life, including your own.

None yet and don't expect any, thank you very much Porsche engineers.
