I believe mine worked via wireless as well as USB. Don't recall exact steps, but Siri and CarPlay had to be on and one other setting. I have 6S+.
#47
I highly doubt this. You probably were able to use your PCM connect app and stereo Bluetooth, but CarPlay requires a hard connection.

New member interested in buying a 2012 991 in silver or white or grey Carrera 4 automatic with 20,000 miles, budget $50,000. I am retiring school teacher and hope to keep this car forever. Put about 5,000 miles per year.
Should I buy privately, dealer, or which web site to use. Should I buy extended warrantee or a CPO? Any advice would be appreciated. I live in Charlotte, NC.

My biggest gripe with the Targa is overall control of vibration related to the top. I have insulated nearly every potential site of contact along the plastic bar behind the seats, but still, along rough roads, I get an annoying high-frequency vibration noise coming from the right rear. I honestly cant hear it with the radio at even modest volume, and never with the top down. There's also a fair amount of creaking along the top from chassis flexion; more significant than any convertible I've ever had.
Having said this, I do truly enjoy the car. These, in my opinion, are small tradeoffs for the looks and open air experience of the Targa.

Hope Porsche can fix it to your satisfaction.-Richard

Ok - so I have had my base cab 991.2 for just over 3 months now and 2,600 miles. This is my first Porsche and generally I really love it.
Two minor disappointments:
1) the stalks (around the steering wheel) feel very cheap and they feel like they could break anytime you indicate
2) the backup camera is a nice addition but the picture quality is dreadful - or at least not what you would expect in a $100k++ car.
I also have noticed and documented a malfunction with the PCM in "MyScreen" as it looses your contact presets (documented in my other thread). This might be a long term struggle as others have documented the same problem and it appears a software glitch. Also, I cannot go into the message function.
Lastly, I have a few squeaks and rattles, but I suspect the dealer will be able to fix these soon.

First 911 here also! I've had my 991.2 S in Miami Blue for about 2 weeks, so far I'm very much in love with it. Came previously out of an e92 M3, and this car feels so much faster and more refined in every possible way. I was going to initially get a manual but after testing the PDK I was extremely impressed with it compared to the DCT in the m3.
I've previously not been a fan of turbos, had a 335is for about 4 months and it drove me absolutely nuts with turbo lag and traded it for the m3. However the lag fairly minimal in the 991.2 and it feels quite a bit different in the response from the 991.1s I've driven. I do like the rush of power from ~6k+ in the .1 but I'm pretty happy with the low end torque compensation. The rear axle steering is pretty awesome as well, really happy they brought that down the line.
The exhaust sound is a bit disappointing, even with the PSE. I've been considering exhaust options, as I had an awesome sound with the m3 that I do miss a bit. The Bose system is also very disappointing.
Overall I'm super happy with the car so far. Miami blue is amazing as well, it's what sold the wife on the car and everyone loves it (at least so they say)

No worries on the exhaust, I've got you covered with a full range of 991.2 products we just released last month, including those specifically for the PSE. The Sport Headers and Sport Cats are pretty transformational to say the least. Here is a video clip of the PSE development car we had come through.

My dislike are the gauges.
Why can't the coolant temperature gauge show the real information? It is nothing more than an idiot light. It stays at 194 degrees until there is a problem, then immediately shoots up to 250 degrees.
I also find the speedometer is a little optimistic. Why can't it show the actual speed?

Biggest regret about my spec was ordering the 20" Carrera Sport wheels with the platinum satin paint. I like them better, from the pictures I've seen, without the paint.

Great question that I have been thinking about recently. My car is a daily driver so definitely there are some things others would find not as useful, but to me they are essential.
Here is the list of options that I got and my feelings on each one, followed by some changes I would make:
991.2 vs 991.1 - As a daily driver one of the things I was drawn to with the new model was the Car Play integration. And although there are some occasional glitches it was a fabulous decision for my daily driver and I do use it a lot to listen to Audio books, podcasts and a lot of music. Could I do this with bluetooth and the built-in system, sure, but the integration really does make it nice. As for the engine NA engine vs the FI, not having owned any sports cars and being a daily driver, I really don't mind the engine noise the way it is (I did not get the sport exhaust). There is enough engine noise for me when the windows and sunroof are open to enjoy.
911 C4S - Do I need the S, probably not, but I'm not likely to by another P car so I went all in, as a daily driver I definitely wanted the AWD.
GT Silver Metallic - Love the color
Leather Interior in Black/Bordeaux Red - Turned out exactly as I wanted and am very happy
Premium Packages Plus w/ Power Sports Seats (14-way) - The seats are comfy, no problems for me so far, I definitely like having the seat heating and ventilation (never had this and never realized how great this is in the summer or on a long drive). The auto-dimming mirrors are nice since I seem to be sitting at the perfect height to be blinded by SUV/Pickup headlights. The LED and Dynamic lights seem to work great (I'm sure I'll be sad when I have to cough up money to replace a unit).
Model Designation 911 - Happy about the simplified badging
Rear Wiper - Definitely useful and I do like the way it looks
Power folding mirrors - seems useful
Sunroof in Glass - Very happy with this on drives in good weather and just overall to make the cabin more lit, there is a downside mentioned further down, though with the shade not sure it is the Sunroof's fault.
Manual Transmission - Loving it!
Power Steering Plus - Near the end of my build I wanted to delete this, but I don't honestly know everything feels fine, but I'd have to drive another car without it to know the difference.
Front Axle Lift System - Yes! Getting in and out of my office and a couple of other places this has been really useful, would be nice if it worked like the Tesla system and remembered where you use it and automatically did it for you.
20" Carrera Sport Wheels - I do like the look, have them in the standard platinum, would have liked the exterior color, but I kind of like having the bit of contrast.
Lane Change Assist - Great feature
Heated Multifunction on GT Sport Steering Wheel - So far so good, feels comfortable
Smoking package -- as other suggested it does look cleaner
Luggage Net - has been helpful surprisingly and again other suggested it and were right
Instrument Dials in Bordeaux Red - I really do like the look
Burmester Stereo - I am really loving the sound quality and to me it was worth it
Okay onto what I would change (and luckily these are ones I can do with time and money :-) )
Sun visors in leather
Carbon Fiber Interior package - I like the way the standard contrast with my interior, however I am getting a lot of glare at various times of day and the carbon fiber would I think cut that down. This is where I use the shade to prevent the glare from the sun coming in the roof when it is overhead, but I get a lot of glare from the center console trim from the sun coming in the front window. I could also add tint to the windows, but I think I may eventually get carbon fiber trim, the only problem is that getting afterwards does not get it on the doors...
That's it really, I do wonder about PDCC, but for my driving capabilities I think this is plenty.
