I am looking into getting my car detailed with C Quartz Finest. I usually detail my car myself but have really been impressed with the feedback on these new finishes. i was also impressed that they can go right over the Xpel that is on the entire front of my car. I am looking forward to a little less work for me except for the usual washing.

Who has done C Quartz and what is the usual cost for prep and application that most have encountered?

Thanks Lex. I was quoted around $1250 which seemed about right. Are you a fan of these coatings?

I am in the West Chester Pa. area so if any other members are from this area I could use a recommendation for a shop.

I've had my car OptiCoated Pro twice now. Early spring 2014 and late fall 2015. I love it. Plan to have it fully paint corrected and nano coated every 2 years.

Prep and paint correction are the key.

I've used Oakes Detail by you for my previous m6 and they do great work. Also do wraps, clear bra, etc.

Again, it's more about the prep and skill level of the detailer. Less about the final stage high quality product.

I chose OptiCoat because that's what my detailer recommend for my car's color, the way I use the car, and my own skill level for car care after his work.

I have Qquartz Finest on my X5 , Tesla (sold) and have nothing but positive things to say about it.
My cars are easier to keep clean, resist marring and have a glossier finish than a hi end wax job.
On my GTS I went with the Gtechniq crystal serum, its more money than the Cquartz but it is supposed to be harder then any other coating. It does seem to be shinier than the Cquartz.

I have heard that Opticoat can be a little bit "grabby", most will top it with a wax to make it slick. Other than the grabby thing I havent heard anything bad about their product.

My X5 was $1200 with light paint correction, $900 for the Telsa and $1500 for the GTS with Crystal Serum.
At first I thought it was smoke and mirrors, but after a year of having on the Tesla and BMW I have no regrets. Its not 100% protection against vile bird bombs but as long as you get it off right away you dont have the typical paint etching.

Unless your car has lot of deep marring you cost shouldnt be more than $900.. Make sure you vet your installer, lots of hacks out there.

Is there any reason to use one of these coatings over areas covered by X-Pel to increase protection? Or is it primarily to increase the level of gloss and ease of washing?

It enhances gloss, gives an added layer of protection on top of the Xpel, makes washing easier since the dirt does not stick to the finish. Plus it helps prevent marring (spiderweb look) from regular washing.
I thought it was BS and smoke/ mirrors , but it really does make a difference.

Zero additional protection. Yes, about the ease of washing.

Not sure what you mean by zero protection.. its not protection like Xpel or Suntek from rock chips..but it is protection from micro marring, bird bombs (if you catch quick enough).
It is overhyped to certain degree.. I have heard people saying it will prevent stone chips and love bug damage which is not even close to being true.

I had CQuartz Finest on our Z4 and my old 991. Then I did regular CQuartz myself on the Cayenne and Ram truck. Both results are simlar, but the Ram and Cayenne cost me under 100 combined, and several hours sweat equity. Went with the new Pinnacle Black Label nano coating on my newer 991 and it was easier to apply, but equally as effective as the other 2.

We take the Ram and Cayenne through a brush style full service car wash, both are black, and they dont get swirls
