Default 991.2S v GT3-RS.....interesting

Hope this link is allowed, mods please delete if inappropriate,

http://www.planet-9.com/club-911-gen...s-leipzig.html

Lifted from the post,

I'm not going to go through their whole experience, but I'll highlight here few things they said that struck me:
1) the RS is a very special brutal track machine, but they'll never buy one unless to track it. It can't be a DD nor a weekend car.
2) the exhaust roar is amazing, but after a long day of laps the ears would bleed with pain.
3) the 991 GT3 RS is more forgiving than the 991 GT3, as per their instructor.
4) as much as they loved the RS at first as much as they were disappointed from the RS in a straight line. They said they wish it had the R8+ V10, Huracan or 991 turbo S engine/performance.
5) the 991.2 Carrera S gave them a very hard time on the track. They'd close on the gap on the curves but on a straight line, the Carrera S would just fly ahead of the RS.
6) they all agreed that the 991.2 Carrera S is the better car for DD, weekends and track.
7) all Porsches on the track were brand new. My friends' RS had 200-300 km on the clock.
8) all four RS that were on the track that day got topped five times with oil in the two days course.
9) there were 911 R and 918 on the track too.
10) they didn't feel the Carrera S turbo lag.

That's not a feedback I ever thought I'd hear from friends who were obsessed with the RS. I say big thumbs up to 991.2 Carrera S."

#5 - That big wing adds drag, which would be a detriment on a straight. I don't know if this wholly accounts for straight line speed differences (Cd is a bit less for the S) but maybe that, and a different gearing ratio may be, in some way, part of the explanation.

I think ALOT of people would feel differently about some of those "opinions".

Seriously, the RS an ear bleeding car that can't be a weekend warrior? If anything, most guys complain it's too quiet.

The .2 S a better track car than a GT3 or RS

This is the new "post of the day". 10 pages of drama upcoming.

Lots of people apparently have self esteem issues and want to justify the money spent on the 991.2, heck I would even review it as the best NASCAR, car ever! It just too fast to be legal on the big oval.

The GT3 RS would do everything better than the 991.2 C2S, other than hauling kids in the back seats and long road trips. I don't think anyone wants to sit in the RS for more than 2hrs. If you can afford the RS, you don't use it for road trips (drive to the track), and you don't have kids it's a way better car in every way. Resale value is also a bonus. The RS doesn't have enough power? Please... Wrong car, get a Viper ACR.

I hate to say it, but Porsche is trying really hard to get people to feel comfortable with the 991.2. Lots of shows and magazine articles are funded. I see the new 911 ad in almost every car show. I don't ever recall Porsche tried to market a 911 so hard, it sells itself historically. My local dealer don't even have any 911 in stock.

The 991.2 will sell. People will always want the latest the greatest, no need to push so hard IMO. Purists will eventually change their minds over time, first it was water cooled, then DCT, and now turbo.

hard to believe that C2S accelerates better than GT3RS, I've driven both in different settings and my butt tells me GT3RS accelerates much faster

We all know that the 991.2 is the most amazing supercar ever. The 991.1 would be so embarrassing to be seen driving.

Almost like a 991.1 owner may be really close to falling down to being an upper-MIDDLE class citizen so they wouldn't fit in around real upper class society.

Or is it that the 991.1 really starts to hurt the bottom of my feet when I use my heels as friction on the concrete to stop the car. Good thing an angel from heaven delivered this futuristic perfection that is the end all supercar in the 991.2....

Based on Christian Gebhardt's times, there are only 6 seconds between these two cars on the Ring. 1.4% difference. Doesn't surprise me that the .2S would be right with the RS on most tracks.

Given the resale of the GT3 and RS, they are far cheaper cars to own than the other 991 variants.

Agree seen track times for both, as well as Gebhardt's times in both motors. There close. Still think GT3 RS is a halo car, new revision will have more lower end torque and power, can't let 991.2 be that close in performance.

Can we be honest? Unless you're a top notch driver, the difference between the 991.2, GT3 and RS will be insignificant. I also would argue that most of us will be faster with AWD 4S.

I've never met anybody on Rennlist who wasn't exactly that. I'm actually in the notch right above "top."

Here's my 2 cents on the RS and 991.2. My opinion is that the ........................................................................ ........................................................................ ........................................................................ ........................................................................ ........................................................................ ........................................................................ .......................................................... And that's all I gots to say about that.

I have no opinion about this since I am not allowed to buy one unless I buy the halo car first.
