One of the biggest design flaws of our 991 are the exposed radiators. The GT cars all have mesh grill to protect the radiators from high speed impact with small stones and tire debris, however the non-GT radiators are very exposed. After spotting a couple dings on the radiators at 900mi, I didn't want to take further chances.

There are 3 choices for the 991:

• Zunsport - $400 - No Bumper Removal Needed - Doesn't Look OEM to me.
• Rennline - $300 - Pre-cut and Pre-Bent - Good option, but still need to remove the bumper.
• Custom Car Grills - $100 - Needs cutting and bending, also require bumper removal

I'm a DIY guy, so I ordered 2xBlack Small Diamond Mesh - 12"x48".

If you don't like to cut and bend, go with Rennline for an OEM look or Zunsport for the easiest install option.

It took me 30min to remove the bumper, the hardest part was unclipping the wires on both sides once the bumper is partially out, I used a long flat heads to help. Don't let the instructions intimidate you, it's much easier than it looks. The bumper is held by 1 T-27 screw on each sides (behind fender liner), 3 T-27 screws on top, 2 retaining clips, and 8 T-27 screws on the bottom. That's it.

My modification to Plenum's notes:

• When removing the frunk trims, start with the top piece that covers the battery first, then the sides, then the font will come off. They all pop straight up when you remove them in that order. No pry tool needed, they come off very easily.
• On the bumper clip, just use a pick tool instead of a bent coat hanger.
• You don't need to jack the car up, just turn the wheel to access the fender wells. No need to remove the side markers.

Tools used to cut, bend, and install grills:

• Large Flat Head to help bend grills once mounted
• 16x stainless steel self tapping #8x1/2" screws (found a pack at AutoZone)
• Small Zip Ties
• 1/8" drill bits for Zip Ties

Note, drilling for zip ties are on the top part of the grill and not visible once installed. Ensure ALL the grill patterns are consistent and facing the same direction. I didn't bother to paint the side radiators black, don't want paint chips.

Conclusion, I love the look and now feel more comfortable being on the highway with debris flying my way. Bending and cutting the grills took 2hrs, removing and installing the bumpers took 1hr. Keep in mind I used to do bodywork in high school and I'm very handy. I'm very OCD so I had to ensure everything was straight. I'm very happy with Custom Car Grills' quality. If Rennline was in the $200, the 2hrs less in work would be justifiable. But $300 is a bit steep for grills IMO. Hope you enjoy the photos.

Started the process last weekend test drove a 991.2 C2 base PDK back-to-back with a CPO 991.1 C2S 7mt.. would be happy with either TBH.

You can't go wrong with either of those options. 991.1 C2S MT would be my vote, nothing sounds more intoxicating than a N/A flat six screaming past 5k RPM. Plus, if you keep the 991.1 C2S MT for 15yrs, they'll climb back in value.

Agreed! The sound difference between the two cars was night and day. However the cars both felt similar in power. That particular C2S example was a little too high mileage for me so I'm looking for another.. STG's sticky has been very helpful in my search.
