991.2-Will they sell?
#32
Just scanned Cars.com and Autotrader for 2017 911's. Cars shows 918 listings and Autotrader has 1,015. The 2017's I first looked at my local dealers are all still available. By comparison there are fewer than 80 new Spyders listed on Cars, 6 new Ferrari Cali T's etc.
It appears it's a buyer's market for the new car.

what is not to like?
you can get a Carrera S with 420 hp and rear wheel steering.
Throw a tune at the car and you have a reason to sell your 997 turbo.
Center exit exhaust is a nice touch too.
I could easily take a C4S as my next daily driver. (Gawd knows the new TTS is also more awesome, but more $$$.)

Same here! I test drove the 991.2 but got the 991.1 GTS instead. Was a no-brainer for me personally, especially since I got a great deal on a demo with very low mileage.
For me the next interesting car will probably be the 992.2 Turbo S or 992 GT3 (if that is still NA).
Cheers,
Markus

BMW periodically alienates their older customers with new designs and they still end up with increasing sales. The newer customers don't know what they are missing and so the past doesn't matter to them. I expect the same is true for Porsche.

I guess it's subjective. I am not missing my 991.1S. I just love my new .2 with RWS and SPASM. Like all my previous Porsches, this one is superior to the last.

When did the 991.2 go on sale? Panorama reports that 911 sales are down 21% year to year at the end of February and that the first two months of 2016 are down 27% compared to the first two months of 2015.

Isn't this normal during a model transition though? People who wanted the NA engine bought it. Those who want to get the 991.2 are waiting. There is going to be a gap of a few months relative to the year before. It just makes sense to me anyway.

On further checking, it looks like deliveries started in December, so it looks disconcerting that combined Jan&Feb sales are down by that amount over 2015. But hopefully you are right. Macan sales continue to skyrocket. It looks like it's Porsche's newest and most popular "sports car"

Glad you love your superior .2. According to the local dealers here in NorCal, you might be the only one. Sales and preorders have fallen off a cliff according to the sales guys I chatted with this week when I dropped by.

Panorama reports US sales, and LCW is correct on the .2 delivery timeframe. January and February 911 sales are all late ordered or in stock .1s. April will be the first month with any valid sales comparison figures, and even that month might only reflect a trickle of early ordered cars. There seems to be a good number of Rennlist posters who have taken delivery of or are awaiting their .2s.

My dealer only has three .2s in stock, but he has a bunch of .1 2016s on the lot...
The .2 is going to sell just fine.

when i ordered my .1GTS, there were non to be had, and I had to wait many months for an allocation to hit my dealer. not a good example because it's a bit of a special edition car? how about how many RS, GT3s are sitting around on lots.. demand far, far exceeding supply. still not a good comparison because the GT cars are GT cars?
how about the Macans when they were released. mass production, mass appeal. still, I had to wait ages before there was any inventory to even test drive, and 6-8 months for an allocation the first year they were released not to mention MSRP and sometimes above. granted the suv market is what it is and has broad appeal, i simply would have expected more enthusiasm from buyers and salespeople about the .2.

They'll sell. There's a bunch of us 'idiots' I have spent too many hours reading reviews, both professional and on forums, watching youtube etc - and I plunked down my hard-earned cash.
Does it sound as good as outgoing, no. Is the powertrain as linear in delivery? Probably not.
Will 991.2 drive well and is it a 911, and built to last: absolutely. Cash well spent then. And doubtless other well-informed buyers who know the marque have gone through similar deliberations. It takes me 12m+ before I pull the trigger on a car: I have not experienced buyer's remorse, ever. If I have an inkling beforehand of disappointment I step away (and yes, one has to be aware of confirmation bias).
