991.2-Will they sell?
#17
I respectfully disagree. I took delivery of mine on Tuesday and put 800 miles on it in two days on a road trip from PEC Atlanta (I will post a separate report for that soon). Of course, I may be biased, but I think they will sell all of them and sell fairly well, within the context of a shrinking sports car market as STG said. All I can say so far is that I am very happy with my purchase and would buy it again!

Absolutely not true!
I have read all the pre-delivery angst from the pundits.
I have one and have stopped reading any "I just drove a 991.2 Posts."
It's just fine, with the technology to make it a daily driver for me and not sit in a garage, only to make a car show or two.
Backup camera, LOVE IT!
ACC LOVE IT!
Porsche Car Connect, LOVE IT!
Multifunction/Heated Sport Steering Wheel with Paddles, LOVE IT!
New Sport Carrera Fuch lookalike wheels painted Gloss Black, LOVE IT!
And the list goes on!-Richard

Technology is progressing at an aggressive pace and I expect that each iteration would be better in every quantifiable way. Otherwise we would be charging Porsche with torches and pitchforks for digressing while other automakers get better. In order to simply meet global regulatory requirements and for them to scale their business, Porsche has to do certain things that a 1967 911 would have never had.
A new Camaro is a piece of crap IMO but a better car in every way than the 1969 numbers matching SS that sells for 300K. It's a little comical to kick the anthill about this subject.

Reversing cameras are great. Had one in my Panamera, almost bought a 2016 just to get it. Bought a 2014 and am having a NavTV unit installed in a couple of weeks. Would rather have a OEM camera, but not for $20k (price difference in the cars I was considering).
Porsche Car Connect - surprised this got a mention. Had it, had to twist my dealership's arm to get it activated, found it nearly useless. No way I'd pay an annual fee for any of it. Though if I remember correctly, this is about you not being able to get a no-annual-fee car locator where you live?
Really, really want one of the 991.2 wheels with both multifunction controls and the paddles.

In Europe, the 991.2 is selling faster than the 991.1. Why?
Not just because they are a better car (which they are) but also because of the lower CO2 level, which means you can now deduct 70% of their operating cost. With the 991.1, you could only deduct 50%.
On a 150,000 euro car, 20% extra tax deductibility is a big difference. As a result, they cannot give the leftover 991.1s away. As I have written elsewhere, I just got one of the last 991.1 GTS 4 Cabs (a very low mileage demo) for 25,000+ below list price.
You guys need to remember that the ROW operates on very, very different tax/car buying criteria.
Same thing with the 718. Advanced orders are sky high compared to the 981.

Their listings are feeds from dealers who send out the same info in slightly different format. I used to work at a place that advertised on AutoTrader and Cargurus and the only difference in what we sent them was their specific details/file format/etc. Same pics, same info, etc.

You're not one of us then[Ban?]... we will all heckle and smack talk the new model together in concert. When the 992 comes out; and only then, will we unite as one to discuss in depth how Porsche corporate and government over reach ruined the 911. This is the cycle... I don't make the rules - I just drive the superior - previous generation 911.

BTW, I think we are all in a good position with the 991.2. If it sells well then the excellent and amazing 991.1 gets a little cheaper and if it doesn't sell then the excellent and amazing 991.2 gets a little cheaper. Either way you're getting a better deal on a 911. Life can't be that bad if you're driving a 911.
