If you had a choice to replace your 911
#46
My opinion, I wouldn't sell a '16 GTS and buy any of those, they are really not substitutes and they will not deliver the overall utility and fun of the 911 GTS. You'll trade out of the lambo & macca before you know it.

No Turbos for me, not even Porsche because of Turbo lag issue and lack of sound.
I own a '16 991.1 GTS 7MT along with other NA engine cars E92 M3 and S2K and I would not trade any of them for any of the mentioned.
I would consider adding in the future an used Huracan 580-2 or R8 V10.
NA engines Manual preferred, it is all
about the senses and car involvement, not just speed and hp, at least for me.

I respect your opinion but your are by far the minority who would not prefer the Turbo over the NA engines. Most who have owned a Turbo end up buying another one after going the NA route. Just my 2 cents.

So now I am down to 2 cars.
Vermilion red 570s- already placed deposit to hold it.
This turbo engine sounds pretty good with sports exhaust. Free revving engine, swing up doors, super car looks all will add up to an exciting experience.
My only reservations are that its a McLaren and I need to be mentally prepared for small nagging issues. Plus tech isn't so great.
Ara blue Audi R8 V10 plus- I am seriously considering going this route.
Tech is pretty good, Audi should be more reliable than the McLaren. Cheaper to insure and maintain.
I'll probably make my decision today.

I haven't driven the 570S personally but it is a great looking car, IMO looks better in person and of course is ridiculously fast. Car & Driver compared it to the 991 GT3 RS in the latest issue so likely worth a read, not sure they were 100% positive on it but could have just been in relation to the RS.
As for the new R8... drove the new V10 Plus last week at Dream Racing in Vegas and I really, really liked it. The exterior styling is still a bit of a miss (relative to the old car) but the sounds and the way it drives is top notch. I was surprised I liked it as much as I did. The sound of the V10 when you're beating on it is just awesome.
Either way, two great cars and assuming you're moving away from the 911 you cannot go wrong... both are significantly faster than a GTS too in case that is important.

Do you track? If so 570s, and put up w/ the niggles. Otherwise R8 is probably safer route, and it does have that V10.

This is my primary vehicle, so for me:
Utah has winter / cold --> strongly favors any 911 or the Audi.
Wife --> likes to ride in my car, and we have a baby. That means something with back seats or we'll be driving the family SUV or her car a lot more often.
If not for the winter, the 570 and maybe Mercedes GTS would be on the list. If you never want to track it, I hear the Maserati GranTurismo can be a great daily driver - it even has decent rear seats. Used ones are really cheap although maintenance costs aren't terribly modest.
I'd like to own a V12 Aston and a mid-engine Ferrari at some point, but to me, either of those or any Lamborghini would need to be an additional car rather than a replacement as they aren't really daily commuters - especially here. The mileage and wear would take a great toll on them, and for a primary vehicle, the attention would be a nuisance.
Personally, I bought a Ducati to scratch the 'exotic weekend toy' itch for now. When we are older and have a lot more money put away that will probably change...

To the OP. Think your making a big mistake getting rid of the GTS. Was parked next my friends McLaren last night. 95% of the people didn't even look in the direction of the McLaren when they saw the beauty of the porsche in front of them.

If I was replacing my 991 GTS, it would be with a 997 GTS

I've decided to move forward with a 570S. This car is a proper super car. Feels very special. Sounds pretty good with a sport exhaust.
I am picking it up tomorrow if all goes well.
GTS is a great car, just wanted something on the next level.

Seriously. While I clearly love the GTS (own one myself) I severely doubt anyone will ever be looking at a 991 GTS ahead of the 570S. In particular once those doors open it is over.

I personally don't care for the look. Looks to kit car to me. Like someone took a 1986 Pontiac Fiero and refined it. Now the car goes like stink. 650c is just stupid fast. Trust me I know. Looks wize I'd rather have the 458 next to it.
