I think you should buy a mustang. Seriously, go buy a GT350 and you'll be very happy. Plenty of straight line acceleration.

a) I hate Mustangs. Nasty redneck cars.

b) I'm a former road racer and not particularly interested in straight line acceleration contests. If I were, I'd have either replaced my previous 911 Turbo with another, or gone with some form of Z06, etc. And as far as road racing, the truth is the GT350 and Camaro Z28 seem to be outstanding at that. In fact, for the money I spent on a GTS I could have bought a Viper ACR and had a car with faster times than the 918 at Willow Springs and some other fast tracks. But I'd be driving a Viper. And not only that, one with a giant wing out back. Not gonna happen.

The fact that a new Mustang (and many other cars) can outrun a GTS within a certain narrow set of parameters doesn't mean I want one.

I also find it interesting that, with such love for the GTS, you have a 16 and are shopping for something faster. Seems strange, but then I tend to keep my Porsches a little longer.

Nothing to do with the GTS or wanting something faster. I want something more exciting, more exotic. Fulfilling my dream really.

I ran a 2016 mustang GT with headers and a tune in my 7mt power kit car and I absolutely walked him.

NoGaBiker,

My compliments to you for being an open-minded auto enthusiast and the patience you've exercised with others in this thread.

I still enjoy my Mustang immensely. It's old. It's dangerous. It's high-proof, low-refinement, and great fun. I found your perspective and first-hand experiences insightful compared to the "I read a magazine and my Porsche is faster" crowd.

Oh, and the area under the torque curve is often times more important than peak torque output and I think your rolling experiment confirmed that.

You did a 65-130 rolling start run and absolutely walked him? Because unless that's the case, your data bears no relevance to what happened to me. Not to say it's irrelevant in toto, but I think everybody agrees that in a 0-whatever run the 911 is going to win, at least based on testing results in magazines.

Thanks for your kind words. I have no problem saluting the performance of a car I don't particularly like (My Grandpa was a Buick man, my Dad was a Pontiac man, my first car was a Camaro. Only Ford I've ever owned was a very old '76 Capri II in college. I come from a time when men didn't cross over those sacred GM/Ford/Mopar lines ).

Like I said early on, if Ford wrapped a car I liked around that Coyote it would be on my short list. Hell of a good motor.

Seriously, though, why don't you forget about badges and address the 2nd to last paragraph in Post 50, the "hypothetical" I posed? Funny how if the cars wear badges "A" and "B" rather than Mustang and 911 it doesn't seem preposterous at all. At that point the only thing that seems preposterous is to learn that Car A costs $35,000 and Car B costs $135,000!
I think you would eventually catch up. I think the GT350 R top speed is ~175mph, where you can go ~184? So at the top end you'll eventually catch up

189 PDK, 190 7M. I figured above 130 it's probably game over for the Mustang due to aero.

Was coming up on a newer Mustang GT on an open stretch of TX hwy. He got the jump on me and I could not catch him in the 50th. I shut it down at approx. 160mph. T

45-130+. It was in a legal area to do it, of course. I won by 3 car lengths.
