Now that I'm here find it hard to think of another real world (ie. daily driveable) car I'd rather have too.

Visually that car is still very, very hard to beat! For me the 930 poster was mint green/plaid seats. Had the good fortune to encounter the poster car a few years ago at a local (PCA) region concours:

After my BMW, I wanted a car with the engine in what I thought was the correct place in the middle. I had trouble finding a good NSX so ended up with a Boxster S, which I liked but learned that the correct location for the engine is actually in the butt, so nowadays I don't have a lot of other options besides the 911.

Ooo that could actually solve a lot of problems. Somebody parked across two spots? Stopped in the middle of the road? Easy fix!

Agh, not the current inspiration, but the source. My 1958 VW Beetle.

My father got me hooked. He owned several p-cars when I was a kid. The one that truly inspired me was a 71' 911T in metallic blue. I think I was about 9 or 10 years old at the time. I thought that was the coolest car I had ever seen.

As a kid always loved the 911 Turbo, especially the way they can compete with any exotic car. Started with a 996 turbo, been hooked ever since, now I own a 997 turbo.. Just purchased a Dodge Viper which I really like but the Porsche is something else.

No offense, when I find the right car...done. In the mean time, it's not like the 991 sucks, it's just not inspiring.

458's are starting to depriciate nicely now. But the auto-manual is a big negative. Another angle could be a fully built, but still street legal rally car. No hurry.

after drooling over gunmetal grey 930 whaletails all thru college (all while driving a vw scirocco, pretty damn cool college kid car...) and drooling even more over the 993 when it was launched (basket handle and all) i was just married and working in my early thirties, driving a nissan 300zx turbo as a weekend car, and porsche then announced the 996 watercooled car replacing the 993... i said to myself, omg, can't wait anymore, need to get a 993 right now, while they can still be gotten new...

...so i bought a dupont registry magazine that weekend, got my x'mas bonus from work, called isringhausen, and a brand new 97 guards red/cashmere carrera was shipped by rail to me from illinois to seattle the following week...

...and the rest of my love affair with these amazing cars is history

Bob Holbert burned an RS-60 into my brain mixing it up with the country's fastest factory Vette and Cobra (and some kid named Roger Penski in a homebuilt) at Marlboro in 1957. When the 914 2.0 came out, I went down to his dealership. Al had me drive several to find the fastest one. He offered me more for my 71 2002 than I had paid for it. A 74 S, 78 SC, 2008 Boxster RS-60 and a 991C2S later...

Good call by my 10-year-old son --about 15 years ago ... After double - buckling my two kids in my BMW M roadster, my son said I should get a 911 because it had backseats !
Done .
Never looked back four Cabrio's later...
