Default Just ordered a new Targa, some advice please...

Hi to all. I was in the market for a new daily driver, and was considering a used 997 Turbo, but ended up ordering a new 2017 Targa from Pfaff Porsche. I live in Canada, and wanted AWD, and the looks of the car was too good to pass up.

I currently own a 2013 Ferrari 458, which for me is the best sports car I have ever driven. The Ferrari 458 looks fantastic, sounds amazing, but it is a summer only drive and my track day car (see photo below).

My order is as follows:

Targa 4, Graphite Blue
Two-Tone Graphite - Chalk Interior
Standard 19" wheels with coloured centre caps
7 Speed Manual
Sports Exhaust
Model Delete
Light Design Package
Multifunction & heated steering wheel
Power 14 way sport seats, seat heating & ventilation
Bose Surround

The Targa will be my daily driver and winter car. I was trying for a classic-looking and feeling car.

So a few questions:

1. Anything I should add or delete?

2. I went for 19" wheels because I thought they would take better abuse/ pot-holes etc. Any advantage in choosing the 20" other than looks?

3. Should I get dedicated $$$ Winter Tires and Rims, or can I put the Winter Tires on the 19"s and change every winter/summer season? Is that a bad idea?

4. I have a manual car that will not see a track, any benefit in getting the sports chrono pack?

Thanks for all your comments.

Get the 20" wheels and a dedicated set of wheels/tires for the winter season.

You might consider the Adaptive Sport Seats (18 way) for comfort alone.

Sidewall stiffness and looks. Perhaps there is a physics/geometry/handling related advantage to them as well?

Other than that, 19" wheels will possibly be less heavy and offer a more comfortable ride. Having said that, a PASM (make sure the Targa has it) equipped car w/ 20" wheels rides comfortably enough.

Why not order the 4S targa? If its a DD why manual?

I ordered the same color accept my interior is beige/black.

I debated the Bose since it is open top driving and has SE. May still delete it.

I have a May allocation with a delivery in August. What is your allocation and delivery?

Don't need S as have the Ferrari. Why manual, do you have to ask? (It's a lot more fun).

Just ordered, so Late July/ Aug. delivery.

I remember reading a post about the 997 and wheels, and how the 18's were the choice of the engineers, but the marketers chose the 19's and 20's. I wonder if there are any engineers/ experts here that can comment on the ideal set up for performance and dynamics on normal roads?

For $20,000 more the S makes a big difference since your second car is the 458. FWIW, I assumed DD meant driving in traffic and manual is not fun.

I have to disagree on the new model having spent a lot of time driving the car with and without Sport Chrono. The ability to close the wastegates in the sport response mode makes the car feel much quicker, the throttle blipping on downshifts and gear rev counter when driving the manual in the TFT screen are both nice features on the manual cars. The better transmission mounts help lower the driveline lash as well and the car handles and rides better with them... My 2 cents....

FYI, please remember the Targa is the heaviest of all the 911 models. The extra power and the option to get the rear wheel steering might be a benefit to you.
