Gas Mileage at the Track
I was at a track event this past weekend pushing the car rather hard. Later in the day I got a yellow warning message onthe MFD that said I had less than 50 miles of fuel remaining in the tank. I looked at the gas gage and saw the needle just below half of a tank! Guess I wasn’t getting proper government sanctioned gas mileage
When I left the track later on, at about 3/4 of a tank, I had a long highway drive ahead of me. So I set the cruise control and after about 15 minutes I saw the 'miles remaining' number start to increase. It was pretty cool, as if the car was producing gasoline.

I had the same thing at Thunderhill the other day.
I was wondering, the oil temperature goes down to 192 or so in sport mode, but with hard driving was climbing up closer to the 230 or so that normal mode warms up to, and on my last session I got it up to 239.
Is there a temperature where I should start to worry, or is it fine as long as the coolant temperature stays at 194? I have the S, so no center radiator.

Edit: Maybe I was just a little nervous since it was my first track day and a new Stingray fireballed in front of me on the track.

Is your car PDK? They generate more heat. Members here report them going into limp mode when too toasty. If you are becoming a track rat, may be time to invest/research the 3rd radiator from the PowerKit cars.

Hehehe you mean the paper mache transmission doesn't deal with heat very well????
Yeah. Hmm is it the PDK that generates more heat or just that Hans likes to keep the revs up when you have it in auto mode?
Getting the third radiator would be cool, the full powerkit even better! Hehe someday!

I had a similar experience going 160 mph on the German autobahn. Gas mileage sucks and you can just watch the miles remaining tick down.....

The computer on my old 997 couldn't calculate gas use on the track. Can't recall now what number it maxed at, just that it used heaps. One tank was never enough for a full day. On the freeway though, easy 30mpg cruising. Nature of the modern direct injection beast.

The computer takes some driving time to realize your are no longer driving hard. 6 mpg is about what I average on the track. That usually includes some yellow flag laps, so I bet it is closer to 5mpg on a clean run.
