Once upon a time the (we) 997 owners figured we were on the top of the heap. Then the 991 comes along and is a better car. At varying rates we (997 owners) don't really care anymore if our car is outclassed by the 991 or even other brands - we love it just the same for what it means to us. Now the 991.2 and 992 is here/in the works and they are going to be better than a 991.1. PAG advertising is partly engaging in cognitive dissonance relief and, at the same time pushing the new models. This is no small feat! But to the extent it doesn't work, and you are really angry with Quad or Chuck, I don't mind anyone telling me what a comparative piece of crap my 997 is, it's not like I don't understand the motivation, will take it personally or care.

How is it that this has turned into and been twisted into a 997 vs. 992 discussion? Who even criticized the 997??

I happen to like some 997's. I doubt anyone with a 991 goes onto the 997 board to bash them. Why any 997 owners would troll the 991 boards ONLY to stir up drama is beyond me

Why? I don't want a bigger, softer, more luxurious, or pdk 911.

I'm good thanks

But Camaros and Mustangs? Gimme a break. Those are pony cars. "Sports car" is a term that means many different things to many different people, but it has never referred to the idea of dropping a 600 HP truck engine in a 3500+-pound chassis equipped with the fattest tires and biggest brakes that will fit.
Are you stuck in the 80s?

The z28 and GT350 are highly legitimate sports cars. GT3 owners are picking these things up for track cars.

Seriously, just do some research, you'll see how impressive other cars have gotten

If I were stuck in the 80s, I'd still have my '84 Camaro and '89 Firebird.

Junk, junk, more junk, more junk. Not even close to a 911. Just my opinion of course. Those cars do nothing for me.. A mean a corvette, really?? I don't want to drive a transformer. Absolutely zero class that car.

Here's a hint, you can't buy class. Here's another hint, if you judge cars by how classy they are, you may be insecure.

Final hint, go drive some of these cars. Performance wise, they will embarrass your classy 911.

I expected these responses from this crowd. The gt3 guys seem to differ. Interesting dichotomy

I just had a track weekend, a Z06 was on the track. He was an experienced driver, knew the track, and had gobs of power for the straights. I was proud when I was able to keep up with him.

I agree that some of the new American iron deserves to be respected. However, we also had 20+ year old Porsches on the track and American iron, now matter how good it is when new, doesn't seem to do as well over time.

What's the point QC? Porsche has never been about massive HP and loud muscle like exhaust. I too have respect for the new generation of American muscle cars that are finally track worthy too not just straight line rockets. But what's the Pcar slam all about?

You have a 997 TT. I had 2 996TT's and 2 997 TT's and would not have traded them for any American muscle car ever. So the GT3 guys are buying some track cars they can sling around the track without worrying about guard railing a $100K plus car. How many sold their GT3's to pick up a new Stang?

What did you expect by coming on a 991 forum and slamming the brand and this generation car? And for what? And not everyone in a 991 is a PDK driver. MT's are not exclusive to previous generation Pcars.

I highly doubt those cars will "embarrass" my 991 TT. Maybe with a really good driver, but I can drive a bit too... either way, all good. Name calling not necessary..

As to class, not going there... if you like the vette, by all means drive it. I personally don't care. Yes, it does matter to me what my car looks like and I think the vette is horrid. the GT350 is a cool car. Too bad dealers are marking them up by 10-20K.... camaro not bad, good package for the $$... love the 911 platform. Expensive yes! but I do maintain best car for the $$. Especially a good CPO deal...

To be fair, my first comment was about Porsche's form of advertising and that they should spend more time worrying about the cars they build. Back in the 1980s, other brands couldn't build cars that would perform their way out of a paper bag. Recently, other brands have really really closed the gap at a way more impressive price point.

I'm not slamming this generation car. Its not for me, like I said, but its a 911 just like any other. PDK just happens to represent about 80% of the 991s built, and represents a big step up from tiptronic. That to a lot of people is a good reason to upgrade from a 7.1, but for me, its not desirable.

You can't buy class, but you can buy knife-edge precision, superb build quality, mid/rear-engine agility, and European design aesthetics. Just not at your local Ford/Chevy store.

Speed is the easy part.
