By that I meant that, to my knowledge there's not one single new Porsche part on the GTS (nor was there on 997 GTS) that didn't already exist; it just didn't exist in conjunction with all the other parts you get on a GTS.

To wit: The GTS Centerlock wheels existed, but only on the Turbo S and weren't available in black. Medium-widebody shell existed, but only on C4 and GT3 cars, not Carrera 2s. Powerkit existed for any Carrera S. Alcantera goodies existed; red instruments existed, but you couldn't get JUST the tach face in red.

Other than unique "GTS" lettering on various decals, badges and screens, I don't think there is a single part unique to the GTS. Hence the term, Parts Bin Special.

Well, on the 997 GTS the front anti-sway bar is unique, vis-a-vis the S and non-S (hollow and slightly thicker). I wouldn't swear to it but I don't think it is borrowed from the GT models, Boxster or Cayman. Doesn't negate your argument, it's just that there is at least one part (out of thousands) that is unique.

RL: Continual fact checker. On another note one can choose what Porsche has to offer-or not. T

Default NA 3.8?

This rumour has been floating around the internet for a while but this is the first time I've seen it in a "reputable" print source (911 & Porsche World - April 2016).

I'm wondering if this is just wishful thinking. Would it only make sense if the engines and/or vehicle fall in with the rest of the GT line (not standard 911 assembly)? The GTS would then become much more distinctive than a 911 S with powerkit and centerlocks.

Original plans were to announce the GTS in October this year. But I heard from a source last week that the release of the next GTS has been delayed until mid 2017 because Porsche are still evaluating NA vs Turbo engine options both outputting 450hp. Two cars were spotted last week in Spain testing the NA vs Turbo options.

If Porsche just adds turbo boost to the 3.0L, this will be disappointing . 450hp yes!. 3.0 Liter......not so much. More stress on a small displacement engine means lower longevity and reliability to me. I am going to put 200K miles + on my 911.
I took the Powerkit for my 991.1 Targa S. Porsche described it as a limited availability option at the time, so it may not always be possible.

Say it isn't so! I want to put a powerkit on my S at some point.

Suncoast still lists it as available for the 997, which might be a good sign, right?

I have heard that the GT4 and Spyder will also retain the flat-6 NA engines. Who would buy a Turbo 4 in one of these cars anyway? That means that there are economies of scale to keep the 991.2 GTS a NA. A 3.8L w/powerkit would be awesome even if they kept it at 430hp and it was slower than the 991.2S turbos. Who cares? I just want that flat-6 wail with PSE at 5000 rpm. A 991 GTS passed me on Interstate 95 today and before I could even look, I knew what it was by the sound. It's frickin awesome. It had a duck tail too!

Good. Porsche is reading these forums and that is why they are reconsidering. A lot of folks are not happy. The 718 is going to be a fail like the 912 and 924. I hope that they don't make the 991.2GTS NA (if that is what it is) unreachable like the 911R.

This thread is most likely just wishful thinking fueling conjecture with the hope of creating fact. Porsche made a monumental decision to downsize the Carrera engine and add turbos. The cost was significant and we're all aware of their reasons for doing so. They won't take steps backwards. Yes, the R came out as a reminder that the firm listens to the market. But that was a halo car wrapped in a token gesture.

The next GTS will most certainly be turbo. Porsche will not disrupt the market only to reverse course. It's like saying it'll go back to air cooled some day.

Any articles based on wishful thinking should be regarded as such.
