Default How does the pop and crackle of PSE work?

I did a search and did not come up with any answers and the function of the exhaust intrigues me.

Econ mode w/PSE ON - fuller exhaust note w/o pop and crackle
Sport and Sport + w/ PSE ON fuller exhaust note with all the pop can crackle you can handle

So what makes the pop and crackle happen?

Fuel dump?

Exhaust valve remap allowing then to stay open longer?

I'm interested in knowing this too. I have a highly uneducated guess that the crackle is performed by a spinning part somewhere in the exhaust system.

Fuel dump. If you google "porsche over run" you will find a few threads on it.

I can never get enough of that lovely sound !!! And who really cares if it affects gas mileage. I could give a crap if the car only got 8 MPG

Ditto! My recent cars included and E90 M3, and E70 X5M, so this car is an upgrade in the fuel economy department. I need my crackle, and pop!
