Default totally Noob Question

Ok, all my prior cars and current truck are Torque Monsters. So driving my C2 is a lot different than what I have had in the past. So my question is where does everybody keep their RPMs when driving around town on the Freeway etc. I drive the PDK in manual mode and I have been keeping them from 2000 to 3000, so that I can hear the exhaust better and feel a little more torque. Also, I rarely use 7th, as I feel this is an overdrive for fuel economy and I am not really concerned about that. Does anyone normally drive from the 3k to 4k or up? Really just curious.

I love the PDK so I let it do all the work while in sport mode especially in town.

Funny I was thinking about this today.

I rarely ever hit 7th (I have a 7MT) and when I do it's usually while lumbering 80+ on the interstate (whenever that happens).

My 996 seemed to like 2500-3000 and I started driving my 991 that way. However, it has so much more low end torque that I'm starting to experiment with the 2000-2500 range. It would be interesting to hear from others, particularly those that prefer manual shifting (MT or PDK).

I did a fairly rugged spirited drive yesterday, narrow roads (barely two cars wide), no paint markings, and quite bumpy (no homes, no other cars), with lots of twisties, and found that the car really likes to perform well in the 5000-5500 range. This range allowed me to easily slow down for hill crests while still being peppy enough for an occasional push. This was mostly in 4th gear and I could command speeds between 60 and 120 very quickly. Remember kids, don't try this at home

4K is where power begins depending on speed and gear. It's a high revving engine. I am coming from 500tq... you are right that it does seem either juvenile or abusive to drive the flat 6 in the power band

I drive in manual mode 90% of the time. Unless I am just cruising, I'm in the 3-5k rev range most of the time. Cruising, 2-3k. I use 7th on the freeway all the time and just drop down when I need to for a pass. The car shifts so quick, you can pretty much grab any gear any time.

Today in the mountains with my Cayman S I was reminded why I love the PDK.

PDK in manual mode, Sport or Sport+, 2nd or 3rd gear unless I'm in traffic of on the Interstate. The car goes really well >3k and goes great >4K. It's taken me a while to get used to driving at higher rpms but the engines are built for it so I'm driving it accordingly.

After reaching operating temps of course.

Just did a stint up to Orlando and back .I love 7th gear, Had the wife and kids in the car averaged about 70-80mph and plenty of passing power still. Best part was I averaged around 25.6Mpg which is unbelievable in a 400HP car.

Sadly, you will spend most of your time between 2 and 4k. Trying to run it over 5k will put you way above the speed limit in a hurry.

+1

When not in the twistys dropping down a couple of gears to pass someone on a narrow road never fails to elicit a smile from me. If my wife is with me she never fails to ask, "You like that, don't you?".

Yes. Yes I do.
