X51 install decision

I had a 2007 C4s w X51 (hence the RL id) and really liked that car. I have considered a GTS4 but most come w CL wheels & Alcantara interior and I like the wheels and interior I have. In fact I really like the build on this car. And GTS4 cabs are very rare and a bunch more $.
Long story short, a fellow Rennlister and friend out in Calif was going to do the Power Kit and purchased it from SunCoast last month. We discovered from the 32 page install guide that if you have over 25k miles on your engine, you must also replace the crank bearings and the connecting rod bearings. He had 30k miles and the additional cost was too much. So, it is going back, or to me, for the $8995 sale price/cost. My dealer will do the install for $7k. I have 18700 miles. This is a Tequipment part number so it has a 2 year warranty. My car warranty expires 31 May 17. If I plan to keep the car long term, help me with this decision. I know the dyno graph is minor but everyone here really likes the GTS. I paid $91k for the car a year ago, this would be $16k for a total cost of $107k. Seems very reasonable compared to what is available out there. Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I love that my car has the PowerKit engine. I purchased it about 4 months ago ($140K MSRP) but I think I got the X51 package for free. The reason is this high spec car was competing with cars with much lower MSRP sales prices.
If you decide to install the X-51 on your car I think you will love it but I believe for the same money you could trade your car on a newer car such as a 2014 with X-51 already and be about the same or less cost. Personally, I would rather have the factory engine that has been thru quality control and testing.
Good luck either way! Let us know what you decide.

That is a concern for me too. I spoke with the lead dealership mechanic who would do it and he was very confident it would be excellent when he was done! But thanks for input.

Depends if you think the cost justifies the increased joy you'll get out of it.
Also, keep in mind, resale on it (the $16K) will be practically zero. Would be a turn off for some buyers who want an unmolested engine too. In many cases will be a negative on the car. Really won't matter if you keep the car 10+ yrs most likely.
Your call. I personally would not spend $16K for it. I'd rather take a couple European vacations.

The only things to ponder are what I mentioned earlier.

Think of it in terms of percentages. Would you say your car's current value is around 85k? So you will be spending 16k or 18.8%
MSRP for a 2015 C4s cab is 118k and the x51 factory option is 20k or 16.9%.
Obviously the percentages change based on negotiated prices and market.
I guess what I am trying to convey is that you are proportionally paying more for it now than you would if you were to find a new C4S cab, or even wait and just buy a 991.2 (i know it is not the same engine).
I would have your friend send the kit back to suncoast and you can always buy it from them if you change your mind since he is not giving you a deal selling to you at cost.

I'd probably skip it...
...but, does sound cool to do
PROBABLY SKIP it is my thought but I just can't say absolutely NO! It does sound cool...

991.1 Carrera S's with the X51 option are pretty rare. Only easy option to find one is get a 991.1 GTS
Geez if the X51 could be had AND installed for like $8-9K it would be tempting!!

Yep. I've been watching/looking for awile and a GTS4 cab is pretty rare too (4 new ones in the US now but range from $145-178k). I really like my build, interior, wheels, etc. and not unhappy with it in any way. Just thought this would be the ultimate MOD if it can even be considered one. Thanks again.

I did all of my test driving in a 991S because my dealer didn't have a non-customer GTS on the floor when I was ordering. I love my GTS and especially at the discounted price for the X51. That said, to me there is no way in hell the performance delta between the two would be worth adding the X51 as a standalone for $16,000. It is a subtle difference. .

I did a powerkit on my 993 C2S years ago ... my experience was not typical, and was distinctly negative (so keep that in mind)
I personally would not really recommend doing a retrofit, its expensive, and if anything goes wrong its expensive to resolve, and when/if you sell the car you will recover $0 at best, and when you disclose
that you have done this, some potential buyers will walk...
my advice, find a car with a factory X51 or enjoy your current car.
having done this once, I would never do it again, there are simpler and less costly ways to get more
power, sell your current car and buy one with more power.
