Default Clear tail light

Does anyone know how is easy it is to change those to regular tail lights? is it the cover or the whole tail light unit? Cost?

You can do the change yourself in less than ten minutes. YouTube video about removing rear bumper on 991 shows exactly how. Cheers

Dealership or private party sale? If dealership, make the sale contingent on them swapping out the lights. Worse case, you buy the lights from a place like Sunset (or they price match) and swap out for no charge in the labor.

If private party, but the red lights from Sunset, and sell your Clear Lights here (if you become a Rennlist Member). You should be able to make the swap for little out-of-pocket money.

The clears cost more than the reds, and the clears are pretty desirable to some owners, so they would sell pretty fast if fairly priced.

* EDIT- wow, I just checked, why are reds now more than clears? Has it always been this way? I thought the clears cost more.

Someone over on the GT3 forum was looking to swap his clears for reds and below is the result. Cost approx $ 50 to ship/insure. T

This is brand new car at the dealer, comes with aerokit and clear tails that I am not sure about. Wish it had GTS interior instead of standard interior. The clear tails are a $650 option so no matter what I do that money is lost, dealer agreed to switch them for me

That was confusing to me too. But on Suncoast's site, could it be that the clear lens kit is shown, and the other (red) is an individual complete tail light unit? That's all I could make of it.

I would like some red lenses too. I gave the clears a chance.

IIRC, the clears cost more when optioned in a new 991 but if you were to damage one, the replacement cost is much more with the reds. Go figure. T

in terms of over the counter Porsche dealer parts pricing , the standard reds have always been more than the optional clears .... my thinking is this is PCNA's way to " assist " body shops in charging insurers more $$$ for parts ( where they make a decent part of their profit , esp the new parts that a 10 yr old can install ) since they are the default factory ones and so are much more often damaged in fender benders / rear enders / backing into poles , etc.

Removal is a 5 minute job per side.
1) Raise the spoiler to be fully extended
2) You will see a plastic cover that is almost square on the deck below the spoiler. Pull the cover straight up and off.
3) Remove the two small torx bolts. There are three in total only the two smaller are to be removed.
4) Carefully slide the tail light towards you and when it clears the body remove the wire connection with a small screw driver.

To reinstall, reverse the above.

Interesting that it is a 10 min job total ... Stealership wanted $260 to swap for me. I politely declined.

If your avatar is your car, it will take an extra 10 minutes remove the fixed wings and reinstall. Extra two bolts to remove and reinstall.
