i know i know, a 4s vs S question
Before anyone says search or look, I am fairly new to the forum, been reading for a little while and just posting today for the first time.
I just sold my corvette and am ready to take the plunge into a 911, I know for the most part what I want, options, colors, etc etc. I do not want a cab, just standard coupe. Biggest question is opinions on a 4s vs S options.
What does everyone think. Again, will be my first purchase, it will be a car I plan on having for 8-10 years before looking to get something new. I will be looking for a 2013, 2014 with low mileage, hopefully CPO car.
What are the thoughts on the differences, both handling, performance, looks, etc. Thanks Nicl

Drive it in snow or bad weather in winter, go 4.
Summer only or year round nice weather that requires no all weather or winter tire switch over? Go rear drive.

I live in northern Indiana. The car will simply be a toy and fun driver weekends and at night. so basically from end of Oct to first of April will be stored in my garage under a cover.
I have limited options locally to view or buy, and mostly going off of pictures. There are a few S's local but no 4s. In pictures the 4s with wide body seem to really stand out, but am I crazy?

ALOT more to choose from, better deals and cheaper too.

Wide bodies are definitely more sexy, but rwd is what you want absent inclement weather. That leaves a gts, club coupe or 50th anniversary car, none of which will be at the '13 price point. If you really want them hips, the c4s is your only shot. I say drive em both and make an informed decision. Good luck!

Being in northern Indiana, take a couple hour drive to the Illinois burbs. Many Porsche dealers to check out anything you want. Nice way to see in person and test drive.
I've even flown out to even see cars before buying. I'd NEVER buy a used car, especially anything over $30K sight unseen. What's a $300 airline ticket when buying a $90K car? I'd rather be out $300 than make a $90K mistake.

I know most people here will say, take the S, take the S....but IMHO....you should take the 4S.
Contrary to most peoples opinion, the 4S steers better (you get better feel thru the front axle), it's quicker in a straight-line, quicker around the track in any weather and you can still have fun.....plus, the wide body looks better. So go the 4S.

When looking at USED cars and have a big "wish list", trust me, finding a 4S that meets all that criteria will be 10x harder. If you really don't "need" the 4 because of year round driving, the S will make your search a lot easier.
Find the perfect optioned 4S? Go for it too. I'm just trying to make your search easier and cheaper. 4S's will cost you more no doubt.

As you can see from my Avatar, I chose the 4S ... but I have enjoyed two RWD 911 cars before this one. It does help in the heavy Florida rains. The 4S just feels more "planted" while the RWD will feel a bit lighter in the front. Either way, you cannot go wrong as they are both amazing cars to own and drive.

I ended up ordering a C2s. Did not go with the 4 because the car will be a weekend/ good weather toy. If it was a year round car then probably would have gone with the 4.

when push comes to shove and weather starts to get nicer if i haven't found what i want, then i can't get to picky. of course, like all i have a wish list of options and color, etc, and would prefer the 4s, but wanted thoughts on positives vs negatives of just the s.

Here's a thought:
Why not consider driving it in winter as well? ( a 4 S would give you that option).
I've been driving my 4S's in Canadian winters for 14 years. They are amazing in the snow .
( unless it is that once or twice a year snowstorm with really deep snow, then it'll be a no- go)
