Default 20,000 mile service--Worth it or just get oil and filter change

The service is something like 1200 from my local dealer.
Most of this is inspections, draining, etc. and little in terms of replacement parts.
Should I just stick with an oil and filter and cabin filter change and be on my way?
Note that the car is a lease and will be gone before the big 40k mile service.

Should only be an oil change, and if 2 years, a brake fluid flush. Cabin filters (2) are a 40,000 mile service item (though I doubt the frunk filter will go that far). And some inspections. Not sure what a lease agreement requires.

Just had my annual completed at my dealer. Oil change, brake fluid flush, (I supplied the brake fluid) all the checks. Less than $500. I changed the two pollen filters myself.

Just did my 2 year/20,000 today. $800 out the door with no brake fluid flush; just oil, filters and inspections.

The cost stung a bit but it was worse having to drive around a panamera for the day.

WTFlip..... did you get a reach around for $800?

What other filters did they rob you on at 20K?

Why didn't they do the recommended 2 year brake fluid flush?

If you don't already have this .... please print. It also goes along with the maintenance manual.

No reach around, everyone in the service dept is the wrong gender and they didn't offer the receptionist...

4 hrs of labor for the 20k is $500 (yes, they charge while the oil drains I'm sure)
Parts were $225 including $109 for the cabin air filter, $80 for oil, and a bunch of miscellaneous stuff.
Disposal and storage fee was $50
Tax and voila...

I do my own brake fluid flushes after track events so no need from them to do it.

Should it be less? Probably. Doubt I'll do anything different next year though. I did forget to ask about the PCA discount, which I think is 10% on parts. They also do my annual state inspection for $25 for the commie state of TX fee machine.

Compared to the above $1200 it's probably comparable with brake flush.

I just changed both my cabin filters today in about 20 minutes. I am breathing better already. The filter in the trunk was ridiculously filthy. (11k miles) I plan to change that at double the interval from here on out.

Can you share some DIY steps for us? I'd love to do this myself.

Just change your frunk filter. Super easy. That filter is cheap too. About $20. The interior cabin filter, right under the glove box in the footwell is about $90. Mine was still spotless after 24,000 miles.

For the frunk filter, remove the black plastic cowl that covers the battery area. You will see a little trap door to the left with the filter peaking out about an inch. Pull out and replace with new. It moves and flexes like an accordion.

Did engine air filters with my oil change this past weekend. Not 20,000 miles (12k) but 2 years. The filters looked good, had it been a regular car that didn't require so much time and effort to just access them, I would've just put them back in. But after all that work, those effers were getting replaced!

FYI. That's a 40k service item (with plugs). That's why yours probably looked so clean. Good work, though.

I remember stumbling on the attached brochure when I was looking for quotes on service. Prices in Chicago area ended up being around 20% higher but it's a good reference nonetheless.

I plan to do the same thing with the engine air filters. Similar miles and timeframe. And I expect to find the same (pretty clean) results. But it makes me feel better. Have had it all apart before. Time consuming but hey, I'm bored.

I will also change the brake fluid (Motul, do this regularly anyway due to track days) and add stainless steel brake lines. My oil gets changed a couple times a year (track days again) regardless.

My dealer resets my service warnings for free, so that's nice. I just hit 2 years.

You can shop around a bit on these. I got the pair of OEM filters for about $70.

When I had mine serviced recently at 20k miles, my indy found evidence of weeping at the water pump ... so the water pump was replaced. Whether DIY or serviced by someone else, I'd make sure that a thorough check of the critical areas of the car be done. It is so much better to find something proactively and addressing it vs have something fail and then get your attention.
