Default Bose audio gremlins

I am having intermittent problems with my Bose system. During normal starting of the car, sometimes the system delivers static and sometimes no audio at all. Everything on the PCM works, touchscreen fine, shows all stations and frequencies fine, toggles between sources fine. Goes away with a restart of the car. This happens about 10% of the time. Any input would be appreciated.

Any electrical mods? Stuff like radar detectors, and such?

Does this happen with AM or FM stations? I've had this issue intermittently with AM stations, but never with FM.

Yes, Static on AM stations.

No audio issue occurs on all source selections, AM/FM/SAT.

I had this happen (AM only) on a 15 Cayenne when it was new. It was intermittent and went away after a couple of months. It never came back so it wasn't diagnosed.

I had intermittent problems with my Bose system, unmodified, in a 2015 GT3 which I took delivery on in Jan 2015. Dealer ultimately replaced the Bose amp which resides in the rear passenger seat well.
My problem was slightly different from yours, but intermittent from the time I took delivery. the car would randomly generate very loud sound-like open mic feedback screaming. If radio was on, the scream was so loud It would override any normal audio. Car didn't need to even be on. Apparently if the can bus "woke up" it could set it off if car was off. Very strange but no problems since the amp was replaced.

Could be a bad batch of amps. Good luck.

I've experienced this only once in my 991 in the last 12 months, but had this same issue crop up occasionally in my 2011 Cayenne. The system reset itself as soon as the car was shut down and left to rest for a 5-10 minutes, so I never had service investigate. I suspect the root cause is a software issue....and as with software issues, sometimes the hardware just needs a reboot.
