Default Alcantara Update?

For those of you with Alcantara wheels and shifters, how have they been standing up in the long run?

There are several threads on the topic. However, an updated thread on actual longevity -- with or without cleaning intervals -- would be fantastic.

How's your Alcantara wearing?

Not the best sample size but I got my GTS in February and it is my daily driver including several sweaty track days. The wheel is holding up just fine, it was a bit dirty in the 9/3 position from my hands but I cleaned it using a micro-fiber cloth and some hot water. Took all of 5mins and it came out good as new.

Anyone that tells you that alcantara will stain and is difficult to keep clean likely doesn't know what they are doing. My 2 cents anyways.

I agree with Vise. Had Alcantara on my C7 for over a year before I got rid of it. Easy to keep clean and can handle all the abuse you throw at it. While I am not a fan of Alcantara, it is good man made material that holds up well.

My GTS is my daily driver. I've only had it since July but all alcantara is holding up great so far.

I've had my GTS for 10 months, and the Alcantara looks new. Not a long time, but no signs of wear.

Thanks to everyone for their feedback.

Looks like Porsche's current alcantara is holding up exceptionally well despite early reports/fears 👍

For those interested, there is a short article on the history of Alcantara in the February 2016 issue of Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car. It states, Ultrasuede sold under the trademark Alcantara "turned out to be pleasing to the touch as suede, but stain resistant, washable, more breathable and longer lasting." Interestingly the article states, the Fiat X1/9 was not the only first mass produced, mid-engined sports car, it was also the first production car fitted with Alcantara. I guess find one of those and we can see how well the material holds up.

Great info dhud. Never knew the X1/9 was the beginning of it all.

Only have 4K on my 991 GTS and still looks fresh and clean. I use Sonax Upholstery and Alcantara Cleaner a couple of times--this stuff is the bees knees, smells great and removes all the oils.

The stitching gave out in a couple places on this one, but the material itself looks almost new after 42k miles and 34 years! Check photo bucket link for pics of the seat. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fiat-Other-X19-/172036577426
