Why is Porsche the only premium (sports)car manafacturer that still doesn't offer a hud in 2016? They did a great job upgrading the navigation and connectivity but "forgot" the hud. I'm sure this is turning a great number of potential buyers away.
Hmmm... not so sure about that. In a Cayenne, Macan or Panamera perhaps but in a 911? My early impression of the 991.2 was that it was already becoming too technology and lifestyle driven and losing its roots as a drivers sports car.
Really, after 2+ yrs on these forums, the first time I've heard this brought up. I think their new engine designer for the 991.2 will turn away more buyers away than anything.
Had HUD in a previous sports car. Liked it simply because it was faster to go from "eyes on the road" to your speed, rpm and whatever you programmed to display there. Did seem repetitive to have the standard gauges just below and wound up never using them. Always thought that space would have been better served as a widescreen NAV system display. T
We had a HUD on BMW 550i and at first I missed having the basics right in direct sight. However, thE 981/991 tach/digital speed/MFD layout is really well done and now I prefer this layout to a HUD. I don't think a 991 buyer will walk because of no HUD but don't knock the display if you haven't had some quality drive time with the tech.
Could the OP just maybe be poking the collective Rennlist bear a little bit?
I wouldn't buy a car based on whether or not it had hud but having driven a car that has it, I think it is really nice to be able to see your speed without looking down at the instrument panel. For automatic trans cars, it is also nice to see what gear you're in also. I haven't driven a PDK car on the street so I can't say it would be the same as other cars but in other cars, 3rd and 4th gears sometimes are hard to tell apart. And you don't want to accidentally shift from 3rd to 2nd.
