Default 20" wheels vs. 19's

The 20" wheels look cool, but some say the 19's handle better.
Some say it makes no difference. On a base car is it worth ordering 20's? ( which are standard on S models).

The 19s do handle better. Less rotational inertia. Weigh a bit less also so it's not just the wheel radius affecting the rotational inertia.

Edit: A bunch of GT3 guys are trying to get 19 inch track wheels. Some even entertained an 18 inch option.

I have both and the 19's offer a bit more of a compliant ride-and are better for track use. The 20's look better IMO but to each his own.

I have the 19's and have not driven enough miles on the 20's to form an opinion on which tire handles or drives the best; however, IMO the 19's are, by far, the smoothest and most comfortable riding tires. Not near as bumpy and harsh riding.

I have both - 20 for summer, 19 for winter. The 20s look better, but the 19s are a much better ride.

sorry to hijack this thread but I may want to change to 19 inch wheels on a soon to be delivered GTS. I'm struggling trying to figure what size wheel tire combo I would need to keep the same profile as the 20's. Or does it not matter.
Billyii, Slantnose! What did you do for tire size on the 19's and what size wheel did you use?

Thanks
Lou.

The 19's will keep the same profile, just a wider sidewall. FWIW, I have three sets of wheels and tires. 20 P-Zeros for show, 19 OZ's with Sport Cup 2's for the track and 19 Sport Cup 4's with Sotozeros for the cold months. They all drive differently, but in the end its all about purpose.

Hello, basically you keep the same widths, but go up just one aspect ratio....for example, my 20's are 295x30 vs. the 19's are 295x35, goal is to just keep the overall diameter close to the same 27" +/-.

Thanks Slantnose!
That's what I was trying to do.
Thanks 991carreradriver
From what I've read, car will ride and handle better with 19's

Lou.
My car is a '13 base Carrera with the stock Goodyear Eagle tires, 235/40 ZR19-Front and 285/35 ZR19-Rear. You may need a wider rear tire on your GTS? One thing you might need to check before buying 19" wheels would be for space to accommodate the slightly larger brake disc on your car than on the base Carrera.

Do the 19's have more sidewall on the tire? Could be one of tbe issue's.

Also, few years ago when it was just 997.2 911 GT3's weren't the track guys using 18" wheels at the track. Was that more of a reason for the lack of Michelan tire's not going any bigger than 18"?

I just know it really pissed the RS guys off that Porsche went Center Lock because then they could not use their 5 lug track wheel's. Mother Puss Bucket.

Thanks Billyii I didn't think of that. Will have to investigate further. May just call Wheel Enhancement to see if they have a solution.
