Default Accident

Got into an accident the other day in my 3 month old GTS, a lady swiped me from behind while i was making a right turn. Police report said she took her eyes off the road to pick up something she spilled. Must have been doing 5-10 MPH but plenty of suspension damage apparently, No Structural damage. Most of the impact was on the left back tire/wheel. After the dealer looked at it, the following needs replacement:

Bumper
Tire
Wheel
Brake disc bolts
Caliper bolts
Sway bar - Drivers side
Sway bar link
Axle
Strut
Backing plate
Alignement and balancing of 4 wheels

Really bummed, was planning on keeping this car for a while and was wondering what to expect after replacement. Im currently leasing, would it be wise to part ways at the end of the term?

I wouldn't sweat it just yet. See how the repairs turn out first. Sucks to get hit like that, but if it gets put back right and the paint work is good, might not be a big deal in the long run if that's the only damage.

Unless you intend to keep it forever I'd turn it in at the end of the lease.

I am really sorry to hear that - there is nothing worse than having someone crash into your new car.

I recall when I picked up my 1st 911, a '98 993 C2S with aerokit II ... some assh*le hit the back of it
at a set of traffic lights about 2 blocks away from the dealership ... I could still see the dealership sign
in my rear view ... and the assh*le ducked out of paying!

hopefully they will make it good as new!

I would not sweat it too much, if it was my race car I'd fix it up and not worry a darn about it, minor damage . But if it gets reported and Carfaxed and your on a lease, you got options . Either way you should be fine with a reputable repair . Drivers getting so much worse these days with texting and all this connectivity in cars

That's terrible. Sorry.

So, no panel damage? That's great news. After these repairs you'll be back to 100%. Fully enjoy the car. At the end of the lease, you are done. Buy/lease another new 911. Don't worry it and don't let this darken your ownership experience.

Try to get compensation from the party that hit you for "loss of use". Since the car will be tied up for a couple weeks and you are making payments.

Wonder if you can successfully make a diminished value claim on a lease??

Keep it. It is now pre-disastered. What are the odds of it happening to it again. According to Garp!

Thanks guys, its tough driving these days.. too many donkeys on the road. I agree being a lease, I do have options but this was the last of the naturally aspirated and I build it with the intention of keeping it. I'm still tied up to it for another 2 years and I'm just hoping it comes back with no issues.

Sorry. Thank god you and the other driver are ok. From what you discribe. The damage doesnt sound that awful. Same thing happened to my wife's car 3 months ago. Someone went though a stop sign while on a cell phone. Hit the rear tire and all the suspension parts needed replacement along with the wheel and some hardware. The car only had 450 miles on the odometer. It was only two weeks old. The repair bill was astronominal though. Picked up by the other drivers insurance. After the repair was made it looked and drove perfect. It was a lease so we have options. So far it's bin fine. You should be up and running soon. Good luck.

You can't claim diminished value for something you don't own. Loss of use however would be legitimate, but if it's only for a couple of weeks it may not be worth the hassle.

Now it will have the dreaded Carfax accident record. Killer for resale. So I would turn it back in after lease and let the dealer try and sell it. Only exception would be if you are keeping the car long enough that the overall value of the car will not be much. I passed on an otherwise perfect low miles CPO C2S due to a Carfax report.

And the post above begs the question, will it pass for CPO in 2 years? disqualified? Carfax for sure with police on scene and according to that report might be written like "major damage; structural, suspension." So for sure diminution and also every part replaced that ins. co is now on the hook for for a while.
2 years should be enough time to flesh any future problems out for you to decide to keep or not. Good Luck

edit:PS Dont believe that no more NA 4 eva, hype

Not true, at least not true in Texas, and at least not true in my case. I leased a 2012 Jaguar XJ. Got rear ended 2 days after I bought the car. Minor damage, mostly cosmetic. Insurance paid me $1,600 for diminished value.
