I for one have never understood why the 996-991 Turbos got separate forums. I can only assume that at some point in the distant past a few Turbo owners complained like little girls that they didn't feel special enough.
Not only that, but the Turbo forum isn't even under the "Water Cooled" area. There should be fewer forums and categories, not more.

I really don't think there's much of a chance that RL separates the 991.2 from the looks of it. Don't think it's gonna happen.

All the Turbos are in the Turbo Forum. Then separated by series (930, 964, 993, 996, 997, 991). No confusion.

But they're water-cooled, except for the pre-996 models, so why wouldn't I look for the Turbo forum in the water-cooled area? 996 and subsequent Turbos have a lot more in common with their normally-aspirated kindred than they do with the air-cooled Turbos.

Rennlist forums are organized by model types and designations, not engine layouts.

The fact that engine layouts most of the time track the different model designations is mostly happenstance.

Perhaps so, but that still doesn't answer my question: why does the "Water Cooled Technical Discussion Area" exist, and why aren't the Turbos in it?

The forum structure shows signs of not being all that well thought-through.

The forum structure is based in segmentation that will maximize advertising revenues. Induction method, cooling method, chassis codes. Somehow this gives a target audience that gets the most traffic relevant to advertising purchase structures. Case in point, the 997.1 and 997.2 engines have almost nothing in common. The electronics were also far separated. But the chassis code and induction method is the same.

not really. until the 997.2, the 911 turbo shared the mezger engine with the air cooled cars, awd from 993TT to the current, and different transmissions from the N/A cars

I say yes. Totally different cars in my opinion.

Not to mention the bickering is already getting old. Especially from the .1 owners complaining about the .2, and they have yet to even drive one.

Not to be glib, but it's because they're "Turbo" models.

It's the same reason the 924, 944, 968, etc. have their own forum even though all of those are water cooled. Why? It's because they're front-engined. A different model from the other water-cooled models, just like the Turbos are different.
